Check out my introduction thread! Anyway, I'm brushing up on my TIG skills. When I was in school I could show my instructor a bead and get feedback but I'm working out of my garage here and don't personally know any welders. I hope you guys don't bite!Miller Dynasty set to 150 amps, WP-17 torch, 3/32" 1.5% Lanthanated tungsten, #6 cup, 14cfh3/16" thick hot roll (pardon the mill scale) ~3/32" root gap, 1/8" ER70S-2 fillerClick on the pictures to enlargeTacked at ends and 1 in the middle. From left to right...first bead, moving the torch in a zig zag from one plate to the other, too hot going too slow....second bead, moving the torch in between gap in linear stop/go motion...third bead, tried the zig zag pattern again with less heat, maybe moving too slow...last bead, zig zag again, less heat, moving pretty fast, cratered at the end.All four look like they got good penetration, perhaps too much. With the exception of the 3rd bead, all the beads came out undercut. My guess would be the zig zag pattern requires a lot more filler to keep it from going concave. What I mean by zig zag...I've usually just used the torch in a linear motion with the slight pauses for rod dip but I saw a very pretty bead done by moving the torch in a zig zag pattern so I wanted to try it
Reply:Dip in your filler rod every time you come across. Keep at a constant speed and get a good rhythmic motion going and you should be ok. Keep practicing and you will get better and better.CERTIFICATIONS:7018M- H.V.O10718M- H.V.O11018M- H.V.O9N10- H.V.O71T-1-HYM- H.O.V100S1 PULSE ARC 0,035- H.O.V100S1 PULSE ARC 0.045- H.O.VER70S-3 PULSE ARC 0.035 H.O.VER70S-3 PULSE ARC 0.045 H.O.VER5554- H.O.V |
