I've designed a sandrail chassis, and im making a jig table for it.Made out of 2"x2"x.120" Attached ImagesMiller Synchrowave 180 SDLincoln PowerMig 255Hypertherm Powermax 45Torchmate 2x2Victor O/A
Reply:What is your technique to make the pretty mig welds? Nice start! What is a sand rail chassis, thanksMiller diversion 165Miller mig 211Hypertherm pm 30Milwaukee 6230 14 inch chop sawMd 45 mag drill (RIP; fell on its head)New MD 45! Thanks to the esposa! Finally got an O/A setup
Reply:I use a small lower case "e" technique. Heres a little video of me welding on this table[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvW_Buw98Q8[/ame]Miller Synchrowave 180 SDLincoln PowerMig 255Hypertherm Powermax 45Torchmate 2x2Victor O/A

Reply:What thickness of wire are you using? 0,023?Mikel
Reply:Eliot, try turning your wire speed down lower and lower and see where it gets you.Looks good venom, my only criticism is your starts and stops should tie in.Try to end on the begining of a prior weld or begin on a crater of a prior weld. It's fairly easy to get it to where you cant hardly tell where the weld stopped and started. And in the video it looks like you're welding very slow and at low power, which is fine as long as your HAZ looks goo. If this causes an issue it's going to be at the start of the weld when the metal is cold.Last edited by MikeGyver; 07-08-2012 at 06:00 PM.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:It looks great but I want to see MORE!!!!
Reply:Looks pretty, but looks don't mean squat. Migs are notorious for making "pretty" beads, but with poor penetration, if the settings are too low. You can get away with that on thin tube, but that won't work quite so well on thicker material.I've never quite grasped the reason so many guys want to try and make mig look like something it's not. Some like Paul ( ZT) can do this and make it work well, but most can't. They'd be better served by simply learning to do solid reliable smooth mig welds with enough volts to really burn into the base material, rather than trying to make "pretty" welds that are junk. Not knocking the OP, the welds look nice, but I'd rather see some really nice classic smooth mig welds with plenty of penetration, than something that's made to look like it's something else..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
