Howdy chaps. I thought there's no better way to get known around here than to put my current project out for all to see and "comment on"Here in Aust we had a ambulance based on the F250's or the occasional chev eqivlent. Any I do a lot of camping in the (our) high country, gets real cold around 1-3 degrees cel, So after a hard days riding the the need for warmth had to be filled.Anyway this body came off a 1994 F250, and the need for a chassis was underway. I cant seem to help myself and have to over build everything, so I sourced some (I'll apoligize now all my post will be in METRIC  )I wanted to use rectangular steel, So I 100X50X4 mm more than enough to handle the weight of the box is 600KG, plus all the other bits and pieces that will make up the finished project.pic 1 the ambulance boxpic's 2-3-4-5 various stages of the chassis Attached ImagesI own a 87 troopie (rust is slowly owning it  )I ride a quadand I love sticking metal together.  And I live in OZ...  (Geelong)
Reply:That ambulance body looks to be in pretty nice shape. How you going to use the area under the overhang? I'm planning out a "teardrop" style camper to pull behind my car. I have a rear axle from an 81 mustang I may use as I create the chassis. I'm interested to watch your progress. Freedom of speed
Reply:Very cool project. I was wondering the same thing about the over-hang. I was guessing you were just going to put it on another truck...but then I saw the pics.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Metric measurements make me dizzy
Reply:Yogie, very cool project, I like the body, thanks for sharing the photos.I'm sorry, hate to do this to you, but it needs to be said, those welds are kinda sad!  #872 & 877 are very irregular and look like they could have lack of fusion (LOF), otherwise called cold lap, all along both weld toes.  Of course pictures don't tell the whole story, and you can see it better right there, but I'd be thinking of grinding out some of these welds and giving it another go, a litter hotter this time.
Reply:Is the weight of the body making the tire on the trailer squat, or is it just low on air? I'm just trying to get a perspective weight wise, it looks like it would be pretty heavy. -Cory
Reply:Kind of a neat little project. Here in the states they make a very small little plastic/glass bodied camper trailer similar to what you are conjuring up there. I asked about the price of one many years ago and they were like $4800.00 back then.

Reply:Yogie .. That's a neat project you have going there.I don't want to sound like I'm ganging up on you, but. .. ... Pulser ...is right, I was thinking the same thing. The welds look kind of cold and might not be all that great for something that is going to go bumping down the highway or trail. So I wanted to support Pulser here.... sometimes when people ask for a critique of their work it is real hard to tell them what you really think. Since Pulser was honest enough to speak up ... I just didn't want him to feel like the "Lone Ranger"Washman
Reply:Just an update, the body is ready to go the chassis, ended up grinding back a third of the welds and re-did them, thanks for the feedback on that guys, trust me when we want a honest opinion we want one, so keep them comming. will have some more pics and video of the body going on the chassis if there's enough hands on deck next saturday, have made all the fittings for it and once the bodys secured on the final fit out will start.I own a 87 troopie (rust is slowly owning it  )I ride a quadand I love sticking metal together.  And I live in OZ...  (Geelong)

Reply:Yogie, thanks for posting.  Your '87 Troopie - is that an ISUZU Trooper?  I understand cars sold in Aussie would have different names than American cars.  I have a 1974 VW Thing and I believe they were called the Safari in Great Britain and OZ."G"ConductorX - The Volkswright Shophttp://volkswright.blogspot.com/http://bugwerks.blogspot.com/Miller DVI w/Spoolgun - Miller Plasma Cutter
