I want to make some brass rings for horse harness. I want to know if anybody has had any experience with this. Can brass rings be welded with Tig or do I need to use OA? I would like the welds to be almost invisible. Thanks HaroldLast edited by Welderskelter; 12-12-2011 at 10:12 PM.Reason: spelling
Reply:Yes, you can TIG weld (DCEN) brass using argon for your shielding gas. Vee or gap the joint and keep the heat as low as you can to minimize the boiling of the zinc. Silicon bronze rod works well as a filler, or use a smaller rod of the wire you're using to make your rings. That way the color match will be good. Use good ventilation.
Reply:I saw some youtube vid on making fancy cow bells. They uses hammered flat used ammo brass with some borax powder as flux, then hit it with a torch.Last edited by Groo; 12-13-2011 at 02:56 AM.
Reply:Tigging brass is a pain in the A$$. If you have O-A, that's the best method, regular brazing rod with flux.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps |
