Hello All,  I had my shop wired by a electrician, all is good except when I use my welder 250 dx on hi freq. the tube lights flicker and the cd player kicks out and starts rotating cds. The flicker in the lense of the helment from behind me is well kinda of annoying Had the electrician back checked everything and grounds ect.. said all is good.. Any thoughts Thanx Dale
Reply:Miller specifically lists how to ground the machine to reduce HF issues. Is your machine grounded to the structure? From My syncrowave manual.http://www.millerwelds.com/om/o225389u_mil.pdf Attached Images. No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Thanks DSW, I have it grounded as well but may not be good enough? I will have to try a new way or method. Thanx Dale
Reply:Grounding for electrical purposes is different from grounding to reduce HF interference. Not sure exactly how you have yours done. Follow the link and you can read the diagrams and such better. Also not sure what machine you have exactly from your description. You might find a cheap machine has more issues simply due to where they cut corners to save money. I've never personally had any HF interference issues with my Syncrowave 200 and it's not grounded in any special way..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:It may be a characteristic of the 250.  I had an early one, and the HF would interfere with electronics in a separate building 200 feet away . . . on a common transformer.  The grounding recommendations in the owner's manual solved the problem.
Reply:fwiw, my syncro 250 is wired to a garage panel I installed just for 240v toys, err tools.. that panel is a sub panel of the main panel via a 100 amp breaker. The syncro is also on a 100 amp beaker, as there was no code compliant way to tire directly to the bus bars in the garage panel. I have a normal 3 wire connection from syncro to garage panel, hot, hot, ground/neutral.  The sub panel has 4 wires to main home panel, hot, hot, neutral, and ground.  The home panel has neutral tied to ground as per code now, you can only have a single tie in point for neutral and ground. ( ignore the older dryer or oven you have that has an internal tie, code is to be followed, not to make sense, but I digress) From the main house panel I have two separate ground rods, about 8 feet apart, that are like 8 feet deep if I recall the length correctly. They are daisy chained with 4 guage solid copper that is also buried about a foot deep. I mention this as a set up that does not follow millers suggestion of grounding the unit separately for HF suppression. I did a regular typical hookup to an electrical system i put together that is code compliant, but nothing special, which gives zero issues.  I welded for about 4 hours today with HF start, and maybe 15 min with HF continuous. Does not even flicker lights in the house when I strike a rod at 200 amps.miller syncrowave 250hobart handler 140home made 400 amp engine driven in progress...
