Actually this is my second project but that was a small project form a 4 hour MIG class I took a couple moths back. I had so much fun that I bought a welder and turned a corner of my garage into a mini metal working section. For my first build I need a cart to hold the mig welder, a dry cut saw, and the argon bottle. I just went with a 18"x18" box design with a separate attachment for the bottle. I used 1 1/2" 11 gauge steel for the frame and stainless steel 11 gauge for the platforms. The bottle holder is constructed of the 1 1/2" tubing plus angle on top of that to hold the bottom of the bottle in place. I welded little locking hooks with webbing through to hold the top of the bottle. I then welded little hooks in the middle of all four sides and hooked Husky webbing holders to hold all the different cords. Last but not least I drilled holes for the wheels and welded 3/8" bolts and installed the wheels. Tomorrow Im going to paint the frame with rustoleum hammered grey then clear coat it. Im then going to attempt to polish grind the stainless steel with the brushed look. Im pretty stoked on how it has turned out so far so I wanted to post it. I will post other pictures when I'm done with the painting. Attached Images
Reply:looks great. 2 things tho, i would put a "holster" on the cart for your gun and also paint it.Re read it and i see you already plan to paint. Awesome job for a first project.
Reply:Nice job. There are only 2 minor things I would have done a bit different. One I'd have set it up so you could get the gauges under the table for protection. You might find with the chop saw "exhaust" directly over the gauges that they get pitted from the hot metal. You might want to add a flap to protect them or some sort of deflector or cover. Two I'd have lowered the horizontal bar slightly so that if you get a slightly shorter cylinder on exchange, the strap isn't going across the rounded part of the neck..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Ya picked a challenging one for a first project. Nice job.(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah: Go Big Red! (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:Looks good! But DSW's right. Even on a "dry saw" or "cold saw", those chips are hot! If it were mine, I would have to make a canvas or heavier cover for the welder to keep the little chips and metal dust away from it. The 211 looks too shiny and new to want to have it under saw fallout!
