Are any Cable Connector are interchangable

Newbie Question can I interchange cable connectors like Lenco LC 40 and  LC 40 HD or Ldc 40 or 50, or even use a female lenco and a male Tweco?  I also see listed connectors by Dinse, Jackson, Pearson, Lincoln , Matheson...The reason I ask ( I inherited my father in law's old Hollup welder ) and I want to add leads but I want to be able to use his old leads also, and I am not sure what kind of connectors are on the old leads.  On the positive side the only one that I see any writing on is the stinger and it is a Lenco LC 40   3/0 to 4/0 wire.On the ground side I think I will have to change out all the connectors, because the ones that are on there I have never seen before and can not find any that look like them.  They are made by Palmgren, Chicage Tool & Engineering Co.  wire size is 2/0  They have an oval hole with threads on two sides I will try to include some pictures to see if any of you have seen them before.  I have extra females if I could find some males I could use what I have.  Just for background info. My father in law was a construction welder for 40 years and he retired in 1980 so this stuff is old.mike,,,,
Reply:I have never seen a connector like that before. It is probably a dead end.Lenco and Tweco connectors are (mostly) interchangeable but Dinse connectors are different.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps

Reply:I'll add Since the LencoLC-40 is the same as the Tweco 2 which I have on my 1/0. Does the Tweco 4 plug into the Tweco 2 I have 4/0(Bare cable) and 1/0(with Lenco LC-40s) that i want to hook up together.
