I did a search but didn't find anything. Maybe I just didn't use the right search words. I have both TIG and MIG machines and have always used regulators for the gas. I need a new regulator for one machine and I was wondering which is "better", a flowmeter or a regulator?
Reply:The flow meter tells you actualy how much gas is flowing thru you torch The regulator tells you how much pressure is on the line to the torch.. So if the line is restricted or the head plugged the regulator will not tell you anything but the flow meter will be running way low. Mac
Reply:If everything is working right which one will give the more consistent flow or be the most efficient?

Reply:Thanks, I will be looking for a flowmeter. Any particular brand better than others?
Reply:A flowmeter flows gas through a valve then through a tube pushing the little ball up to tell you how many cubic feet per hour of gas is flowing.A flowGAUGE uses a metered orfice and a gauge calibrated to the orfice to tell you how many CFH are flowing.I highly doubt you would ever tell the difference in a blind test.If you like to see the little ball move by all means get the flowmeter but either will do the job well.
Reply:I have both a Harris and a Radnor flow meter. I like the Harris better cause its real shiney. LOLThey both work good.AEAD 200LE, Lincoln precision tig 185, Millermatic 251, Spectrum 625 extreme, Victor torch , Smithy 1220LTD. and Do all C-4 band saw , Always adding.
Reply:do both types need to be adjusted as tank pressure changes?
