Hi all.Quick question.  I bought a Lincoln AC/DC 225 a while back and have not used it yet cause I am not sure if it will work on my garage circuit.I have a 220 plug for my dryer, but don't know what amp it is or if I can use the welder on it with the right plug.  The good thing is, we are having the main panel changed out in a week or two and I want a box for the welder to run off of.  What amp box and circuit should it have?  I know I could check on the welder but it is buried at the moment and want to buy the box and wire for the electrician before he gets here to do the work. Thanks in advance. If John Wayne would have been a welder, he would have used Miller welders!!! LOL
Reply:I would wire it like mine using a 50 amp breaker and plug/receptacle.  My 255C can't trip it running WFO.  IMHO, the Pass & Seymour #3869 plugs are best. http://tools.passandseymour.com/pdf/B57-B59.pdfLast edited by Garauld; 12-26-2011 at 08:53 AM.Reason: Added link- "If ya can't be handsome, ya may as well be handy!"   HTP Invertig 201Lincoln Power Mig 255CLincoln SP125+Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38

Reply:50 for me also, you can put a sub panel in your garage, then tap off of that for more tools.Lincoln Weld Pak100Lincoln Weld Pak 140 HDLincoln Weld Pak 175Lincoln Precision Tig 185Miller Millermatic 210 mig.
Reply:50 amps. Mine would blow a 30A breaker in 5 seconds of bead with 1/8" 7018 DCEP at 110A output.   Put er on a 50 and no prob.  If you have an electric range, you may be able to tie into the box and run a shorter length of feed wire.  Just can't cook at the same time.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:I ran two 50 Amp circuits to my shop and both have NEMA 6-50 sockets.  I then converted the air compressor to also use the 6-50.One caution, the 6-50 plug assumes that nominally there is no current going down the neutral leg.  That's just fine for  welders and air compressors.  Every welder that I've seen with a 110 plug on it (typical on TIG welders), the 110 was off a separate tap of the transformer - which means it was just stepped down from the 220 - that is the safe way. Some equipment might wrongly assume that since 220 is really two 110 circuits, they an just piggyback off one of the 110s for 110V.  That would cause return current to go down the neutral.  The only appliance that I know that  does this is some electric stoves.  Anyway, just be cautious before you start swapping plugs around.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
