What exactly is HF start and Lift start ???
Reply:I believe HF start is high frequency start, you don't have to make contact for the hf arc to jump and start the welding current. Lift start is a low voltage applied to the welding lead instead of the main welding current so there's no arc when you touch the tungsten to the workpiece. The instant you break the connection the welding current is applied to the leads so you have a welding arc. This way  you don't contaminate the tungsten with the workpiece material.....Mike

Reply:Thick skin is sometimes needed in the forum!  Because guy's will yank your chain from time to time. LOLAEAD 200LE, Lincoln precision tig 185, Millermatic 251, Spectrum 625 extreme, Victor torch , Smithy 1220LTD. and  Do all C-4 band saw ,  Always adding.
Reply:One small side note, Lift arc is proprietary to Miller.  All of the other guys have to rely on scratch start.  The difference being that instead of sensing when the ground is broken (tungsten lifted from work piece) scratch start is always hot.  So unless you hit it just right, its very easy to leave inclusions in the work.Have we all gone mad?
