Hi everyone.Could someone give me some tips on this sample I did.I did this in one pass and I have this strange line running across the middle of the bead and I'm not sure what it is, and weather or not its bad news or okay or whatever.  There is also some considerable undercut on the top toe of the bead. Can anyone tell me about the line in the bead, and give some advice on the undercut? My setup: ( spray transfer )27V 300 ipm0.045" solid wire90/10 Ar/ CO2 gasThe steel is 1/2" HR A36 plate.  I did the weld with no bevel. Thanks! Attached Images
Reply:Far as the under cut, I would add more wire. Your volts seem OK, just need more wire to get rid of the under cut. Or your gun angle was wrong.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:How much cfh of gas are you running? And what brand of wire? I just started playing with spray myself, but I put it on hold until a new 400-amp gun gets here. Here is some .035 Lincoln L-56. 35-cfh of 90/10. Reply:That weld was done with the V350-Pro, and LN-25. I didn't have the LF-72 then. Anyway, the LN-25 was on the high setting set at 350, that probably won't help you any.  Here's a good thread on spray arc. http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=28968Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Play with the settings a little and you will be fine. The weld looks good so you know the process, now to work on setting the machine where you like it. Also get in the habit of filling in the crater at the end of your welds. Even though you are just practicing and seeing how your machine runs, make it automatic. Everytime you stop at the ends, give the trigger another squeeze and fill it in.CERTIFICATIONS:7018M- H.V.O10718M- H.V.O11018M- H.V.O9N10- H.V.O71T-1-HYM- H.O.V100S1 PULSE ARC 0,035- H.O.V100S1 PULSE ARC 0.045- H.O.VER70S-3 PULSE ARC 0.035 H.O.VER70S-3 PULSE ARC 0.045 H.O.VER5554- H.O.V
Reply:^^^ Like he said, for hard wire it looks like the volts need to stay put and bump the feed up.Matt

Reply:The line is due to the solidification patterns of the puddle/bead.  Look at the first weld, pointed trailing  edge = line.  Second guy has a round puddle = no line.  I have some info here somewhere that tells why the puddle is pointed on the tail end.  I think it has to do with heat input vs travel speed, but i cant exactly remember.  I will try to get back mondayLast edited by Fred s; 01-08-2012 at 09:43 AM.

Reply:the line is fine. even if it does weaken the bead, that is the strongest part of the weld, so no big deal.
Reply:Here are some pictures of another sample.  I'm at 30V and 400 ipm.You can see on the picture of the cut, polished, and etch, there is greatpenetration but still some undercut. Can anyone give me some advice on the gun angle?  Should I point the gunmore on the bottom piece?  Its not too bad, but I would like to get rid of itcompletely. Reply:I would try rotating the gun where it is pointing more towards the upper plate.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
