Like-NoLike???

I'm going to try it tomorrow and see if someone like me with limited experience can tell any difference but someone gave me boxes of something called Pro Star .030 and .035 wire. Anyone heard of this since all I'm familiar with is Lincoln? It looks like its PraxAir rebrand.
Reply:If it is 70S3 or 70S6 it is drawn in Italy by Sidergas and is good wire.
Reply:Pro star was a brand that I used to get from Praxair. I have some 7018 sticks they weld ok. I also bought a new gun for the mig and it is a pro star. Try it if it welds ok then you got a good deal. Good luck

Reply:Well, I don't know about "comparable". Remember, it's me welding and I've only been at it for less than a year so I'm not sure I can be that good of a judge. But it put down good beads for me and I couldn't tell the difference between it and Lincoln but I think the Mikes and the Daves and you Dale and the other real welders here would know better. I'll take it to Wes' Weld-o-Rama 3 next month and see what the good guys here say.
Reply:Most of the stuff I get that is Prostar is renamed high grade stuff such as my regulator said Irostar but all the instructions had  Victor's brand picture on it  so chances are your wire is Hobart or Lincoln but with Prostar labels. I also realized with bare wire mig thats really not a lot of difference in wires, I hear guys all the time say Harbor Freight wire runs just as well as the expensive stuff.Lincoln pro core 125 14''chop saw7 inch grinder,2-4.5 inch grinders,electric die grinder.Half inch drillAnd alot of hand tools

Reply:I use a lot of .023 and .030 Prostar bare wire and .035 fluxcore and really like it !  (My mig just pukes when I feed it Forney wire)
Reply:I have run quite a bit of Forney and my machine doesnt puke it. It does run different than Hobart wire whiich u get used to. The color of metel it deposites is different too. Reply:As far as solid wire goes I've not found any that doesn't run decent. Even cheap made in china wire usually will run fine though you may have a few more issues with feeding if your machine isn't in good shape. Flux core wire on the other hand can be all over the board.
