OK. Here are 3 pics of my average weld bead today. This is on .118 hot rolled scrap mild steel sheet metal w/o mill scale removed using the ProStar .030 I posted the question on a few days back. I used 75/25 gas @ a 20 flow rate with a "c" power setting, obviously on my Lincoln 180HD tapped machine and a wire speed of 3. I'm trying to keep the bead width appropriate to the metal thickness as suggested before and I think my beads are getting better but I have nothing but your comments to judge by. So, what do you think?

Reply:Looks pretty good. Little more hand/speed/motion/puddle(all bout the same) control then it becomes muscle memory. Already surpasses 90% of the farm welds I've seen. Reply:Can you tell me why? What should they look like so I'll know. And thanks.
Reply:Mostly for uniformity, because it appears like there are spot where you are briefly hitting the dge and others where your holding it longer.  I also think the edges look a little cold where your not holding it long enough.   The welds are good, I just sense based on your other projects that you are looking for "great".Farmer2Hobart Champion EliteMiller S-32p 12Lincoln sp175tLincoln 225 ac tombstoneHarris oxy/aceteleneMakita grinders/chopsawHypertherm Powermax 45
Reply:I am but then again I'm just that way. Been driving the wife crazy for 21 years now but I've never tired of the feel of anything done to perfection. I look at the welds that Paul does and alot of the people on the Mig like Tig thread execute and keep thinking, "Why can't I do that." I figure with adjustments here and there, little by little I can. I'll get this welding thing figured out yet.  Thanks again for all the help.Last edited by jlames; 02-27-2014 at 12:33 AM.
Reply:Looks pretty damn good to me. Probably better than 98% of the welds I have seen from SO called welders I have worked with on drill rigs and people around here who make repairs/builds of there own. When I say around here I dont mean the forum I mean in my local. Wanted to clear that up before I get cyber-raped...HH140---------------------------https://www.facebook.com/brandon.pike.9
