Well...here is my 2nd welding project; essentially 2nd time even using a welder.  We call this "Frankenpit 2.0" and it's made entirely from recycled steel.  The base is 24"x24" and it's around 3-3.5' tall.  It was spray-painted with Rustoleum 2000F Engine Paint to ensure a finish that keeps.  It's just a fire-pit, but it ended out ok....So, what do you guys think?***Sorry for image quality -- Cellphone pics***Last edited by mfldmike; 08-17-2012 at 06:55 AM.
Reply:Nice, simple build. I like the design.. The fit-up looks really good. My only question is, now how are you going to roast marshmallows?
Reply:Good JobMuch more satisfying than buying one! Reusing materials and making it with your own hands.Millermatic 211Hobart Stickmate LXO/A Rig
Reply:Well, I guess if i wanted Marshmallows the top would gave to stay off.  I found a rusty old bed frame that was just laying around.  I went to the junkyard and found some flat stock.  I also found the screen.  The only part that was purchased was the i-bolt on top.Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2Last edited by mfldmike; 08-17-2012 at 08:59 AM.
Reply:Looks really nice! Quick thought though, unless theres a door on the side im missing, its going to  be hard to add wood when the fire is going. That ring on the top is going to get very hot very quickly. Be careful.
Reply:Yeah, I wanted a ring big enough that I could fit a fire stoker through and lift off the lid.  The picture doesn't show it, but i made one out of rebar with a hook on the end.I kicked around putting a door on for quite some time...I decided that it would take away from the uniformity and aesthetics, and ultimately decided to go without one.Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2Last edited by mfldmike; 08-17-2012 at 09:06 AM.
Reply:Looks good, especially considering you used all reclaimed material. You might want to think about adding feet to the legs, maybe 1.5x1.5 squares to keep it from sinking in the ground if left off the concrete slab. The weight will push it into the ground when it becomes soft after some rain.If you are only doing a few marshmallows, holding them over the expanded metal in the top should work just fine. The heat will be concentrated there with the lid on.
