syncrowave post flow?

250 DX, 1/8" tungsen on 1/4" cast aluminum, set on 265 amp 70%I don't leave the torch over the weld very long after stoping. Does the tungsten need argon flowing over it very long? I'm set on 9 seconds. sometimes welding inside a fitting the cup gets red hot  Also if the digital window says 140. Was that my average amps on the last pass?Thanks
Reply:Well, depends on the amperage.. 9 to me is a bit high, you could probly move down a few seconds. Reply:thanks it's still hot at 6-7 sec sometimes most of the time it's cool in 4 secondsI'll watch it and see
Reply:Hello aandy767, the cup will not suffer from a lack of shielding gas, as was mentioned the tungsten is the one that needs the protection. Essentially while it is above a reactive temperature it requires the shielding gas to prevent it from oxidizing. Similarly, you should develope a habit of keeping your filler wire end within the shielding gas envelope while you are doing any welding, if you get it too far out while you are dabbing, if that is your method of rod addition, the end of the rod will oxidize and introduce that into the weld pool and contaminate the weld. So, if you have the post flow set properly the tungsten will remain shiny and not turn gray/black. Another consideration has to do with the materials that you are welding on. If you are welding on steel, holding the torch in place after the weld has been completed is not nearly so critical as if you were welding on stainless steel or other more reactive metals. Then you should continue to hold the torch over the end of the weld termination to protect it from oxidation when welding has ceased and in some cases increase the post flow to allow for proper shielding for the material being welded. As to your other question about your digital read out, I believe you will find that this is simply the value of the amperage when you completed the weld and it will reset after you have stopped welding after a few seconds or so. If you are using the pedal to control and vary amperage, this value could be different than the preset value that is initially displayed on the machine. Hope that makes sense. Reply:Thanks, I have not had any troubles with the tungsten turning black, an occasional dip is another story.When I would turn my head to look at the display it would see 140, for a second. I got the wife to look at it while running and it said 260 amps. I guess 140 is about my lift off amps.
