Ne wto the forum. I picked up an XMT 304 but when I tried to power it up it blew the main breaker in my garage. It's the 1/3 phase machine, white and black connected, red not. Any suggestions for troubleshooting or a place that can fix it? Nor Cal area.
Reply:If it has a removable plug, make sure the PO wired the power cord correctly.Make sure your garage outlet is wired correctly as well.If you're unsure if either is correct, you may want to hire an electrician to look at both.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:If you have an Airgas welding supplier in your area, take the machine in and they will send it to the nearest Red-D-Arc, which is their service outfit.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Thanks for all the responses. Sorry for the late response, I was out. After re-reading my post I realized I did not provide much information. I'm somehat technical and but I think I'm more inclined to take it in. I did a search on the Miller website and there is an authorized repair facility near me. MADCO WELDING SUPPLIES in Mt. View, CA. Anyone have experience with them?I put the plug on but I'm pretty sure I did it right, I did pull the cover off and some of the lugs on the large wire look like they may have gotten hot. It popped so fast on me I'm pretty sure it was bad when I got it. I picked the machine up at an aution for $400 with a PowCon PDP1 wire feeder, a Mk Cobra III gun a Tweeco cooler and a nice cart. The guys at MK Products were really helpful in iguring out what I had and sent me manuals. I'm really a hobby guy and just wanted a nice MIG set-up. I think I still got a good deal, how much should I put into it to fix it? Everything I've read seems to indicate that the XMT 304 is a good welder.so I'd like to get it working. Thanks again.
Reply:Used XMT 304 CC/CV machines go for $1000-2000 in nice working condition. You have $400 already into yours. If it costs more than $1000 to fix it, may as well just buy another one.
