I know, sounds like a horrible idea, but does anyone make welding glasses, like that are a #9 or #10 shade?  I always use a proper welding hood, but last night I was welding radio mounts in from the back side of my dash board in my street rod and it was impossible to get a hood on under there, physically not enough space for the hood, and if I moved my head back to where I could get a hood on I couldn't see where I needed to weld.I put a pair of cutting goggles on, and luckily I only needed a few tacks, and I closed my eyes when I was welding.  I know I'll risk burning my face, but I'd like a pair of these in the garage for those very few times that it's the only option you have.  Ended up with some ugly welds under there, but they'll hold and no one will ever see them.
Reply:You could use the leather welding hood.Or, check out the pics in this thread.  Post #8http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...hlight=leatherDave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:I'll have to look into those, a bit pricey but they'd be very handy in cases like mine.

Reply:we just use a cutting goggle and replace the shade #5 with a shade #10 or 11 and cut some cardboard to fit so we do not burn our face, lots of tight welds here

Reply:A coworker of mine (not in the welding industry - I'm in retail) has a pair that look like the old school aviator goggles.  They looked like they were 5 - 7 shade.I want to get a pair, as run of the mill sunglasses are not dark enough for my eyes.

Reply:In the old days the leather hoods were called a " monkey mask '' . You could almost weld anywhere.
Reply:The burka's are nice. If you seriously need #10 welding glasses just search Schott Glass welding. They have what your looking for.
