I picked up a Hobart Handler 210 about a week ago and I've pretty much become addicted. I've been running beads like crazy and I tried doing my first fillet weld tonight. I'm running the flux wire that comes with the welder on 1/8" plate. Using 120v right now. Give me some tips.
Reply:Looks good. You have the settings just about right.Just practice consistent pulling, keeping the puddle and slag the same size throughout the length of the joint.Good Luck,~John
Reply:Bead looks very large and you need to work on consistency. With filets, you want the legs about the size of the base material. So for 1/8", you want the legs 1/8" on each side, maybe 3/16" at most as it can be tough to do small beads with larger wire. Your legs look closer to 1/4" to possibly almost 3/8" on the lower plate. Way too big.Not too bad for just starting out however. I see some signs of promise at the ends, but the mifddle pointed ripples show you went a bit fast for the bead size..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan |
