Hi everyone, I have been welding for the past 2 years. I'm certified in cwb for stick ( all position) mig (flat) aws tig (all position) and have 2 tickets for pressure through tssa. I was wondering how you go about becoming a journeymen welder in ontario. I've tried finding information but haven't had to much luck with it. If you have any information on it or a website I could check out I'd really appreciate it. Thanks,   Kyle
Reply:If you have a company that will start you in an apprenticeship you can go that rout. To qualify for your journeyman red seal certification you need 3 years or around 6000 hrs of welding field work. If you can prove those hours, you can challenge the journeyman red seal exam.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:How would you go about proving the hours? Would I need some sort of paper work to be filled out by my employer? Thanks for the help Snoeproe
Reply:Good question and one that all new welders should think about.  Easy enough if you're only working for one employer but if you're working shutdowns on multiple jobsites you better keep good records.  Save your paystubs listing hours and collect statements saying you were actually welding on these jobs.  The person checking your hours will want verification.  His questioning will be that just because you have  welding experience doesn't mean you didn't hire on as a fitter or rigger or laborer for that matter.
