Im welding 1.5 OD x .250 wall DOM steel tubeing. I cut it 2-3"s too short. Its a very strength critical piece. I still have the pieces I cut. Ones 1-3/4"s and the others about 3/8"s long. I also have a piece thats about 13"s long of the 1.5" DOM. So my question is. How should I go about extending it? Should I sleeve inside the 13" piece with some 1" DOM and the other long piece? Or just take the 30 dollar hit and get a whole new piece? Thanks for the help.
Reply:Personally, I'd eat it.Jeff
Reply:Fixing a fuch up on something as critical as you state it is is a If the customer can see it it's even worse.Do the right thing...Measure 5 times cut once.Don't make me mad....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:I would replace it. There is not a price on safety.
Reply:Thanks for the suggestions. Ill just replace it. Not happy about it though. I guess Ill just have extra DOM.
Reply:My daughter calls it stupid tax. Like when I got grinder all over a customers windshield. I bought the guy a new windshield. Everybody screws up, how its handled separates the men from the boys.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Just get a new piece.....this time measure a few extra times before you cut. hahaHow would you like to pay for a critical part with a splice in it???
Reply:D@mn dude, I'm surprised you asked. What did you expect us to say? "Sure, just slob it together and cover your tracks with Bondo"?
Reply:Weld it back together and grind it smooth and forget it ever happened. Paint and bondo does wonders for this; if you can sleep at night after. But seriously just replace it, saving a few bucks ain't going to buy you a new reputation if the thing was to fail. |
