New mobile welding business here!!! Questions?

Hey fellow welders>      I just opened my own mobile welding business! I am still working at my full time job though until my business takes off. (hopefully) Its been about 5 months since i started advertising, and work is picking up but isnt as busy as I thought. Do you guys have any recommendations on how to get my name out there besides word of mouth?  Im in yellow pages, craigslist, and a local church paper they hand out. (94000 copies/year). I was thinking on taking a day off of work this spring and hitting up local businesses such as concrete, construction, marinas and giving them a business card and a little about me and my company. I know my company isnt going to be raking in the cash rite off the bat, but I thought it would be busier than this....Thanks - Brandon
Reply:These days if your not on google you really don't exist. I did not know they even still made phone books (JK). Get yourself a website run some adds on google Adwords and get ready for the phone to ring. At least thats been my experience.  We have been in business since 95 and word of mouth and reputation was all that was ever needed. When things slowed down in the recession i went the internet route (google) and the results have been more than I could have ever imagined. I have gotten jobs from as small as a residential bed frame repair all the way to big construction contracts that have resulted in dedicated return customers. All from the same medium. It seems to scare allot of people but is actually quite simple to do. Just takes a little work. Good luck!Nick

Reply:If were talking about advertising i would use social media to draw in costumers along with all other mention ideas places like Facebook,Twitter,Instagram,Myspace,etc all allow you to meet new costumers and show off your work. I use one of these mentioned sites a lot to show off what I do.Lincoln pro core 125 14''chop saw7 inch grinder,2-4.5 inch grinders,electric die grinder.Half inch drillAnd alot of hand tools

Reply:I agree with Joe, I have gotten more  business off facebook than I have anywhere else... Meet other people in business themself, networking is key... My driveway is currently full of projects, darn snow and ice over it all... Something else I would do if I were in your position, make art, people love this stuff that is hand crafted, sell at the fair, flea markets whatever... Just to get it started, I had built a couple of fancy entry gates this way, met these people at a fair they asked if I did bigger jobs and was asked to build an entry gate, other one was someone that saw me working on the gate and wanted one similar... It snowballs eventualy.. Hang in there buddy!!!
Reply:Ok if you want some easy money go to your local scale house and buy the guys some pizza and give them your card     I work at a diesel shop and there's always guys getting shut down for stuff needing welding at the scale.   Most of it is as simple as trailer mud flap bracket      Another place is implement dealers and feed stores and co-ops   Harvest seasons around here are killers on equipment
