Guys. im looking to do several tables that are adjustable. im looking for some miter gears in the 2" OD range. and would prefer not to spend like $30-$50 each and would prefer something recycled. Since each table takes 4 gears.Any ideas on something i can readily find in a junk yard i can rip into and get the gears?
Reply:If you mean bevel gears try looking at landing gear drives for 5th wheel campers. Either hand cranked or 12v electric. Reply:Spider gears from a rear end if you have a junkyard. I've looked on ebay and its pricy. If you do that look under steampunk industrial gears. Reply:Somewhere I saw where a guy made an adjustable table using two trailer jacks, one on each end. He linked the two together by a rod running under the table. It was slick. The jacks already have the gears and aren't all that expensive.Maybe you could use the gears from a differential spider gear set.Last edited by Oldendum; 03-09-2014 at 08:12 AM."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:Find a semi trailer shop, landing gears would have them. A lot of times the leg gets bent and the gears are still good. You can pm me if you have trouble finding them.Miller xmt304, Miller S22 p12, Miier Maxstar SD, Miller 252 w 30A, Miller super32p12, Lincoln Ranger 9, Thermal Arc 181I with spoolgun, Hypertherm 10000 ,Smith torches. Reply:If you're doing several tables, I'd want to find identical sets so you can just design once and build multiplesYou will need a pinion rack too wont you ?A place like Boston gears sells lots and lots of premade gears to standard sizeshttp://www.bostongear.com/products/open/miter.htmlMost any bearing or transmission supplier deals with themYou can also find boston gears sold on ebay in singlesIn terms of junkyard stuff, also see RV motor home jacks like the semi truck landing gear styleorhttp://www.harborfreight.com/automot...l#.UxzO8c76Qb8Harbour freight trailer jacks |
