Miller recommends a coolant changer yearly on a Coolmate 1.  It appears that there is no coolant drain on my unit.  I'm imagining I need to just tilt the entire unit over and dump, then rinse the screen out.  My coolant has no debris in it and looks perfect. How often do you guys change coolant in the real world?  Is it like a car, where the manufacturer recommends it, but no one ever really does it and it makes no difference?I already bought new coolant and intend on changing it, but I wanted to get some thoughts on it.  ThanksTA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum

Reply:I've had my syncro250 with the cool mate running gear unit for 12 years.  I changed the fluid the first year (it was fine), then 5 years later (was still fine), and again this past June (was still fine).  I tested it with one of those anti-freeze checker sucker things.I don't usually run that machine over 150A so if you are running higher than that it may degrade faster.I think it's a crock, & they are only trying to sell more coolant IMO.I do not dilute it, I use the miller coolant straight (3gals).  Some coolants will gel up & clog (especially when mixed with water) up your coolant lines but the miller stuff has been great so far.  The only reason that I even changed it in 5 years is because the lubricant in the coolant wears out (long before the coolant does) according to the LWS guy.Buy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.
Reply:Thanks.   I bought my Dyn 200 from a guy as neurotic as me.  He said the coolant had a month left on it.  I think I'm gonna run distilled water through it, then fill it with the coolant and see what happens.  For the amount I will be using it, I doubt I'll need a change for another 5 yrs.My machine has 23 hrs of arc time on it.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:Yep, you got it right.  No drain plug.  Either remove the filler cap and tip forward, or use a siphon pump... I did change mine after the first year.  Who knows if it really "needed" it.  It certainly wasn't visually dirty or discolored.Dynasty 200DXBobcat 250, TD Cutmaster 38 Hobart Stickmate AC/DC LXHobart 210 Mig / SpoolgunCentury Mig, O/A rigPress/Ring Roller/Tubing Roller/Hyd. Reply:Well, I guess they got ya.  For $25 a yr, I'd feel guilty not maintaining it.  Probably what alot of people feel.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
