Reply:My Invertec 205 has been very very tough and works really well. A 275?? I am jealous of you.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:thanks Rojo. my cousin has an older idealarc 250 that he has never used (he inherited it)but won't part with the power hog so to save some $$ on power input i'm looking to get the inverter counterpart. i don't have any experience with an inverter stick welder other than just playing around with a few miller tigs that friends have. i like the stick feature on my lincoln pt 225 but it's a little light on the duty cycle at the high side so i usually fire up the bobcat.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw
Reply:I have a couple of them.  at different locations.  It is heavier in weight and has more electric draw than the miller cst 280 and others I am aware of.  It obviously doesn't have the complexity of the 100 pound units that will do mig stuff as well.  It will do 3/16 rods way below turning the knob all the way.  Not to sure I can offer too much of a review as I haven't used a lot of different machines.  I got an ssc foot pedal for it and it is very controllable.  The touch start is what it is,  It isn't bad enough that I get a copper bar to start on. Once hot starts fine.  It has a switch for tig vs stick and if you do tig on the stick setting it has way more power at the same amp setting on the main knob.  The hot start is kind of limited it is a big blast for I think four tenths of a second, kind of crude. The predecessor v250 had more adjustment.  It has an arc force knob but the manual doesn't tell you what to set it at.  Or what the minus half of the adjustments mean.  One of them came with painted letters on it saying do not gouge.  One probably shouldn't gouge with it according to the engineering dept, advertisements aside.  I ended up putting sports tape near the bottom of the amp knob and a sports tape pointer on the knob so I could get some finer reference points.  Regardless of what the manual says about hooking it up to a 100 amp breaker I can easily do 1/8 rod and as much as much as I dare (about 150 amps) on an air cooled 17 torch off a clothes dryer outlet.  If you turn it all the way up and turn the arc force all the way up it must be able to put out over 300 amps if you kind of burry the electrode.  Not sure if any of this helps.  Maybe some day I will parallel the both of them but the guy on the help line talked me out of doing that for gouging.  I am not sure why but I have some boxes of 1/16 6013 made by GE so it must be pretty old.  I never could get it to work with my transformer welder but it works on this one.  The guy on the phone at lincoln said the v205 models are made in Italy and this one is made in USA.  I have my doubts it doesn't say made in xxxxx anywhere I can see.Fran
Reply:thanks for the info Fran...k. i don't foresee ever using the machine for tig. i am wanting it strictly for stick. i don't understand why the manual would say it needs to be connected to a 100 amp breaker when the draw as i am reading it in the catalog states 37 amps in at 275 out on 230v single phase @ 35% duty cycle unless it has a substantially high surge at start. please correct me if i am missing something here. your reply was very helpful. thanks again.....jim225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw
Reply:It draws 67 amps input on 230 volts single phase maxed out as per the manual. The tag on the back says so as well.  Actually that is at 275 amps output which must be able to be exceeded with the arc force twisted, there is lots of stuff about the thermal shutdown kicking in at 300 amps and it drops down to 200 amps until you break the arc.  They also tell you to change out the eight guage chord to a six guage one if using it at that voltage and phase at max output.  The lincoln engineer was a little vague how necessary that was.  This is clearly more than than the de rate on single phase models from themal arc or Miller (comparable as I see it).  There is a footnote in the miller manual as to the de rating because of the chord so I am a bit confused.  My best guess is that they expect the installer to down grade the input wire to less than 100 percent duty cylce and that might be why.  It does have a transformer inside it, not all solid state stuff.  I think they call it a shunt, the copper bar that the dinse plug attaches is cut half way through which really puzzles me as that stuff is so much smaller than my transformer unit's copper bars benind the bolt on places for the leads.  It works well for me  I wish I knew if a different model with a soft/crisp feature would be better.  Some rods take more skill than others, it does big 7024 good for me.  I have kind of decided I like the dual shielf mig technique if conditions allow.Last edited by fran...k.; 02-15-2012 at 08:49 AM.
Reply:I had a V250S.  It is a nice machine.   I sold it to my brother.  He mostly uses it for tig .  I just finished a job using my V160S.   I also have 2 V350 pros.  All good machines   with zero problemsReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:The Invertec 275s is a nice little machine. Little, but powerful as already posted.  It easily runs 3/16 6010 rods.  I have passed numerous pipe X-rays (API 1104) with this machine.  You will not be disappointed with the Lincoln 275s.  I just bought a Miller Cst 280 earlier this week after demoing for a week.  That is even a little more compact than the Lincoln, just as powerful and it only ways 40lbs. So far, I am really liking the miller 280.  It has a real nice crisp arc to it.  I suggest demoing both machines if possible, or at least the Lincoln if thats what you have decided on.  The Miller CST 280 is worth a look in my opinion.Lincoln Vantage 300Lincoln Ranger 8Lincoln LN-25Lincoln MiniflexMiller CST 280MillerMatic 180Hypertherm Powermax 45ESAB 161LTS
