Yep Fall is here. First field repair....

Got a call today from a farmer with some broke equipment.  I went to take a look and knew right away that I wasn't equipped to handle it on site.  So I had to get creative.  I went home and got my genny and sawsall and lopped it off.  Got the piece home and with some grinding, welding, and time spent in the press, I got it all fixed up.  capped the end of the tube for some more strength.  I'll weld it back on in the AM. Reply:Love the driveshaft repair..And the rotted tire.Good thing this is in a field!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:good job!! last time i went out to a farm for repair i got called out AFTER the farmer tried to weld things up.... at least you got there before...
Reply:How would one align the yokes? Just in case I run across a repair similar to this.
Reply:on a rear driveshaft without a carrier bearing, the two u joints would be opposite each other. Go out and look at a truck now and you'll see what I mean.

Reply:Talked to the farmer today.  I told him that there may be problems with the yokes being off 60 degrees and that I would like to have the truck for an hour or so to correct it at no cost.  He said they already hauled several loads and the vibration was minimal.  They travel less than 5 miles per trip and plan on running it as is through harvest.  So I guess they've been warned....Power, Northwest.asdf,That's sandy stuff in an irrigated field.  Most of the fields around here are much darker than that.The weld failed right down the center and appeared to have some porosity.  I don't know if that was original or due to the previous repair attempt.Mattyg,I do lot's of work for these guys.  They've come to realize it's cheaper to call me first.  I can usually show up within a reasonable amount of time, day or night, so there's no reason for them to attempt it first.My name's not Jim....
