What kind of prices are you guys paying for 4x8 sheets of 16 ga and or 14 ga diamond plate aluminum? Been looking online but no prices are listed.
Reply:4'X12'X 16ga Aluminum floor plate, $179Seems to only be available in 4' widths, 8',10, and 12' longAllMetals, California (oroville)
Reply:Thanks bart , i like kicks prices better but id say shipping would get me from down under! Been thinking about building toolbox for my tractor and i know that usually you pay less per sq foot with a whole sheet than buying in individual small pieces. Im going to check with my local steel supplier to compare , thanks!!
Reply:voodoo what series and where are you getting that quote from? pretty good prices. A sheet of 4x10 3003 3/32 ran me $175 out the door (non diamond plate)
Reply:Yea no doubt voodoo is getting a good price! BC , what does 3003 series mean? I think in aluminum there are different hardness ratings as in some can be bent over 90 degrees and some can't , right? Thanks for the replies.
Reply:It's what aluminum is alloyed with. If you are planning on using a brake to bend it, go with 3003. If you plan on using it in corrosive environment(marine) go with a 5000 series. If you do plan on bending, that will put out 6061 since it will crack. You can also get some sheets in alclad which has a thin layer of pure aluminum on the outside that will polish up nicely and provide corrosion resistance. Just google "aluminum series" and you'll find a wealth of info. 2000 and 7000 series are generally deemed non weldable and are used extensively in aircraft(2024 in wing skins and 7075 in Firewalls, etc), as is 6061.
Reply:3000 series. I buy my aluminum from Eastern Metal Supply (EMS). I get a lower price because of my account activity and then I always ask if they can do a little better and the knock off another 10-20% like its nothing. Make you wonder what their costs really are......
Reply:Also I am referring to diamond plate, not flat.
Reply:thanks again guys , good info. I am going to be tig welding the corners and bottom. If you use the 3000 series , what aluminum rod / alloy (tig) would be best or does it matter?
Reply:3003 plate you can use 1100 or 4043. Thought not always recc I will also sometimes use 5356 if I anodize it and need some strength. But for your application, 1100 or 4043 would do the trick |
