Next time your at the LWS, or any store that sells batteries, buy another set for your auto dark helmet.....I don't have another set and was all set up to strike an arc at my brothers house, but..... my batteries are dead and I don't have another helmet here.Next time I'll have another set in my helmet bag.
Reply:Or just keep a old fixed lens as a backup If you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before the bag of luck is empty."-Grandad circa 1990ish
Reply:The only issue I have with buying "spare" batteries, is that many will go bad just from sitting if stored under improper conditions. That said, I usually buy a "spare" set after 8-12 months of use and rotate to old spares into the device. There is a definite advantage to having a hood that uses "standard" batteries like AAA's rather than "specialized" watch batteries, especially if you work odd times when you may not simply be able to run out and pick up a spare set.I do however also keep my old fixed shade Jackson as a backup in the truck for class, since I've had the AD hood die on more than one occasion..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:None of my 3 AD helmets use batteries. My name's not Jim....
Reply:I keep an old TV remote on the welder so I can check the helmet. Press any button on the remote and it should darken... if not... time for batteries (in the helmet not the remote ).Having more than one helmet is the key. Also, a spare helmet is great for when the wife or friends drop by the shop... they can watch and you can keep working.

Reply:Regarding the batteries staying fresh, I keep my back-up small batteries in the used pill containers from prescriptions. They stay fresh as these containers are air tight. Just food for thought. Bob
Reply:Some higher quality hoods have a low battery indicator.Yea right, mine went on JUST A MINUTE BEFORE IT DIED!
