Anyone ever seen these GE welders?

just bought this welding rig a few days ago. I'm familiar with Ford truck, but the General Electric welder on the back has me intrigued. Is it rare? would it be worth investing in? Reply:The truck is what has me hot and bothered. The welder is $300 if it runs good. They're out there if you look. Reply:That truck reminds me of something you would see in a horror movieIf the welder runs, I would clean the innards of it and the truck and remove the heavy rust and spray it with clear to preserve the "naturally aged" look.That old glass work light on the welder if pretty cool.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:Hello Ewelder11, I had a GE welder many moons ago that looked similar it had a ford flathead 4 cyl. powerplant driving it. The particular one that I had had a brass plate affixed to the engine that said that it had been rebuilt by a particular army corp group in 1939. I actually believe that it was originally an electric motor/generator machine that had been modified. You could tell that someone had fabricated the bell housing that connected the motor to the generator portion. The engine was also very similar to that of a Ford 9N or similar tractor. I didn't weld a lot with it, however, when I did operate the machine the E7018 that I ran with it laid down like butter. Good luck on your project and best regards, Allanaevald
Reply:Thanks Aevald, I was told the truck and welder ran fine when it was parked in 1973. I pulled the plugs on the welder, they look great, filled the cylinders with marvel mystery oil just in case. the carburetor is on the work bench getting cleaned. this weekend Ill buy a 6 volt battery in hopes it will fire up.Miller trailblazer 251Miller Spectrum 625Millermatic 2511970 Lincoln SA-20010lb sledge hammer

Reply:that would make a nice rig if you can keep it all original. If so, figure out how to get it registered with the movie people ( nice retro piece). I think anyone that drove it though would have to be short, grubby and 1 thousand years old.Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. So YES you can own too many tools.
