First two pics are of yet another version of a 4x6 stand I threw together. Sure is nice not having to bend over anymore! Second two pics are of a hitch I bought from CL for a B-body GM car (Caprice to be exact). Turns out it's for an older model year with a frame that's about 6 inches wider at the rear. I whacked off the excess from the ends and welded new hangars on it. Of course it's not complete yet, I still need to add the longitudinal arms that triangulate it back to the frame. Saw stand was welded with my Millermatic 251, .030 70S wire, forget the settings. Hitch is being welded with the Dialarc using 3/32 7018, range selector in the middle and the dial set to about 75, whatever that equates to in amperage (should be around 90-95). Reply:Decent stick weld. I'm curious why you didn't use 1/8 rod. The metal looks to be thick enough to use a larger rod."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Didn't have any 1/8th on hand . Weld closeup is actually a 2 pass weld. There was a fairly deep groove formed by the outside radius in the box tube that the first pass burned into, then the second pass was a slight weave. I'm kinda old school in that I appreciate the speed of MIG, but I think SMAW, done correctly (on steel), provides better penetration and overall strength. At least that's been my experience over the last 20 years. I've always done better on both a bend and tensile test with stick over wirefeed.Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC (Sold)Miller Dialarc 250HFMiller MM251Miller MM200 (Sold)Miller MM130Miller Spot WelderVictor O/A rigMiller Spoolmatic 1 (Sold)
Reply:It looks like you used the harbor freight 3" non-swiveling cast iron and rubber castors. Am I right? I just put castors on my bandsaw frame (a homemade steel pipe deal), and went with four of the same type, but in the swiveling version. Rated @275 lbs each, they seem fairly decent.Last edited by jakeru; 09-26-2012 at 12:52 AM.
