What shaped tip do you prefer on your tungsten for various welding?Do you see a difference in leaving the end pointed vs grinding a small flat land on the end of the tungsten?I'm a novice, but in AC mode at 80 amps with my Dyn 200, 80%EN, 60-120Hz, 1.5% Lanthanated, I see no difference between keeping a sharp point on the tungsten or grinding a land in terms of the arc. If I don't dunk it, the pointed tip forms a tiny ball at the end of it. If I grind a land, it just stays that way. Reply:I am a novice as well. And I only have a small dc inverter to tig with. (scratch start) But I do notice that with a fresh tung with a sharp point I really dont have to "scratch" to start the arc. Just get it about .001" off the work piece and it will fire off. Almost like a poor mans HF.
Reply:20 amps and under I leave pointed. Above 20 amps I grind a small flat. Lincoln V205. This is the way I was taught and I stick by it.Hypertherm Powermax45Miller auto 140 migMiller Econotig Watercooledwith wp24w TorchLincoln Power255XTNew(Lincoln V205 ac/dc)Miller Elite Helmet
