Any of you guys now what grade titanium filler I can use for tig welding 4130 to titanium ?? And possibly a place that would sell just a few sticks of 1/16 ,Or am I going to have to buy a hole pound just to use about 3 sticks . I know the stuff is not cheap .Have a couple of small tabs I have to weld up . Thanks all for your help Blessings Neil
Reply:I think brazing may be a better choice. Im not sure how compatible the two are and the melting points are way different, titanium's is almost twice what aluminum's is
Reply:Hello possessed, you will not be able to join those two materials by welding. Many of the various grades of titanium are even questionable for joining if there is a difference in grade. As was mentioned in the previous post, you may find a way to braze or solder, but not weld and even that would likely require a controlled atmosphere as opposed to an open-air process. For some additional information on titanium try going to www.timet.com, this may help with some of your decisions. There is likely additional information available through www.atiwahchang.com. Good luck and best regards, Allanaevald
