Reply:Your copper backers are in all the pitches too? Now for me you wouldn't have to polish and paint. The prop will be back after a couple of trips. I never go out without a spare prop. Reply:Looks great. I have always wondered how they repaired these. I guess, I had assumed it was more high tech. Do you balance them after your done? Thanks for the photos.

Reply:Ha - now the secret is revealed!Yikes, now every 'newbie' with 30 yrs of hand tools, 52 pitch blocks 6p-26p, a rake gauge-pitch gauge, a dual arbor grinder polisher and a 250 amp ac-dc tig will be repairing props!prop-doctor - you have done it again!Well done!Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet
Reply:Why run an 'old-tech' aluminum prop?I had an 18 foot bowrider with a 115hp outboard.I gained 2 mph by switching to a stainless steel prop! All was good... wonderful, until I ran over a 'dead-head' (submerged log). The SS prop looked like a closed flower - all blades folded over each other. The bad news... I bent the output shalft.  Result was $1700 repair!  (Insurance paid.)Lesson learned! The reason to use an aluminum prop is to avoid serious damage; the blades break away before the output shalf gets bent! With aluminum, you can just change out the prop on the water and be on your way; no tow to the marina and week(s) lost in the repair shop.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet
Reply:Looks nice Prop!Do you have to adjust or tune the copper templates from time to time? Seems like they could move around pretty easily after heating & softening.Matt
Reply:the copper temps are just the shape of the blade that conforms to the flat or progression of said blade, i have temps for all makes of blades pitch is obtained when straightened on the block yes they all get balanced after welded and before the final sand(before paintall props are Tig welded; alum is AC, SS and Nibral are DC   you will incress performance by switching to SS over alum ,, but run the risk of severe damagesthe temps hold up real well, they just give you a shape of the blade  THANK YOU for all the kudos guysidealarc 250/250 ac-dc tigidealarc 250/250 ac-dc tig #2 used for sticklincoln sp100hh125dual arbor grinder polisher30 yrs of hand tools52 pitch blocks 6p-26prake gauge -pitch gaugeG&D prop repair 918-207-6938Hulbert,okla 74441

Reply:what about the skeg of an outboard ?  My 115hp yam has run over the odd obstruction prior to my ownership and there are a few chunks missing. Can this be repaired without having to remove the leg ?
Reply:umahunter thats just CAMO lol just because it called weedless they aint and for the pin thru prop yep if its a SS pin that happens you can use a brass pin but will shear more often for the skeg i have 3 ways to fix them : a full skeg --a half skeg or make a piece cut out like a puzzle pieceor just pad weld it back bead after bead  build back have done them on the boat or off --off is easyer quicker BUT  once you replace the Whole skeg it has a weak spot and can break off again IF HITidealarc 250/250 ac-dc tigidealarc 250/250 ac-dc tig #2 used for sticklincoln sp100hh125dual arbor grinder polisher30 yrs of hand tools52 pitch blocks 6p-26prake gauge -pitch gaugeG&D prop repair 918-207-6938Hulbert,okla 74441

Reply:Nice job on that prop!I'm also thinking of getting into the business and just received my first prop to practice on. I'm also curious about your copper backing plates for welding. They just look like copper plates that you cut out and formed using a pitch block. How thick are they? Did you make them yourself? Also just wondering if you have any tips for a newbie just starting to work on props? I plan on starting with just aluminum but may also add stainless if all goes well!ThanksDave
Reply:hey  the copper templates were bought from rundquist and are about  .020- .040 thickand are the shape of blade guess you could cut out your own. was easyer to just buy, that way i had all the shapes needed. i have 30 different templates. and have made someidealarc 250/250 ac-dc tigidealarc 250/250 ac-dc tig #2 used for sticklincoln sp100hh125dual arbor grinder polisher30 yrs of hand tools52 pitch blocks 6p-26prake gauge -pitch gaugeG&D prop repair 918-207-6938Hulbert,okla 74441
Reply:Nice worl Prop-DoctorI had much rather you repair one from me than for me than to have to buy a new one. I always run Aluminum rather than risk wrecking the foot. Talk about the lake being low - this picture was taken at Lake Wylie in North and South Carolina a few year ago. As you can see, the hazard buoy wasn't doing much good here. Attached Images

Reply:would like to know the balance after completion of the work of reconstruction, as much concerned to make a wall similar to the original is always more grams of making an irregular rotation, very good work, greetings.
Reply:too bad they quit making them. if you can, use some undamaged props to make someif you would like i can trace mine on paper to help you out PM me your address and i will mail them  ..as for the balance -- it is done before finish sanding.. if any is to be removed  it is ground off the back side of blade . never from the edges or positve (front) side of bladeidealarc 250/250 ac-dc tigidealarc 250/250 ac-dc tig #2 used for sticklincoln sp100hh125dual arbor grinder polisher30 yrs of hand tools52 pitch blocks 6p-26prake gauge -pitch gaugeG&D prop repair 918-207-6938Hulbert,okla 74441

Reply:Great job. I am really amazed. Did you do the entire reconstruction work yourself? It is simply great buddy.
Reply:I run a marina, currently we send our props out.  I wouldn't mind trying it myself but I have a couple questions.  Do you buy rubber hubs for those that are pressed in for those props using shear rubber instead of flo torque or shear pins? How do you balance them When done?  The only props I use are for honda 8 HP's and Merc 25 (9RH), but we go through 50 or so a season.
Reply:I know this is old, but ... how'd ya get my prop!?!?!
