We use ProFax 17FV torches in my tig welding class. The Handle slips when I walk the cup and my head gets out of position. Not everyones rig is like this, instructor suggested holding it up closer to the head and not on the handle. Guess I am stuck with what I got for the duration of the class. So I am thinking of buying my own setup. I cannot decide, go with what we are using the Air cooled 17FV or another air cooled brand of torch. The Profax is the only one I have used so far....EquipmentLincoln 200SATrailBlazer 275MillerMatic 252Hypertherm Powermax 600

Reply:Never looked specifically at the Profax tig set ups. Wouldn't surprise me however if the tech school doesn't use them however. I know the mig guns are all Profax guns there. I'll have to look closer at the 18 series torches on Thursday night.I'm planning to go with the CK torches most likely when I upgrade my torch set up. the internals are a bit heavier than the Weldcraft's so they are rated a bit higher with the 17 series being 100% duty cycle at 150 amps vs the 60% of the Weldcraft torch that came with my machine.Having your own gear isn't a bad idea. I pretty much plan to bring most of my own stuff when I take a class. I simply prefer having the stuff I need available and in good shape. I get some strange looks from people in my machining class when they ask where I found bits and such after they spent an hour looking for tooling and I tell them I simply brought my own..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
