Hey everyone,Throughout school I used Miller MIGs and was pretty decent with them. The only welder I own is a good old Lincoln stick but I am trying to further my vehicle fabrication. I am looking at a Snap-On mm140sl MIG/TIG that is priced very well when comparing to others. I have been searching around for the last few days but none of the threads ever answer the questions, they just swerve into another direction. I will be welding charge piping, exhaust and other body welding. Has anyone personally used this welder that can give input? Also, I know it can be done with a spool gun, but can the tig attachment weld aluminum on these welders? Thanks for any comments in advance,Kyle
Reply:Welcome ! If you post your location it may help someone locate a machine for you. I found when the SNAP ON name is on anything, seller thinks it's worth big bucks ! I would look for a MILLER or LINCOLN. Who has parts for snap on ? You want a WELDER ? Buy from a WELDING MACHINE COMPANY !
Reply:That's one thing that I did find, Snap-On is a better all around company than a welding company. I updated my profile, but I live central KY. I used Millers all through school and love them, the only reason I was looking at the snap-on was because of the price for two in one. I have heard to stay away from anything that isnt stick/tig combo through. I dont weld for an occupation so it doesnt have to be a top notch unit, although i wasnt sure where I would find a mig and tig welder for $1400. This is for a used unit of course, but I only weld for fun and on my own vehicles.
Reply:Alpha tig 200x ac/dc, stick, Amazon $719. Eastwood mig 175 $550. total for 2 brand new machines for $1270www.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Dealer Consumables for the PT and IPT torch's
Reply:Never used either machine, are both decent quality vs price? Seems like an awesome deal.
Reply:I have the Alpha tig and really like it. I have used the Eastwood 175 and they work well also. And both have a 3 year warrantywww.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Dealer Consumables for the PT and IPT torch's
Reply:Like I said, most of my work is stainless charge piping or other steel exhaust work with occasional frame notching and body work. I also like how the alpha is pulsed, I have heard a lot of good things about pulse and AC.
Reply:I would stay away from that snapon unit, its way over pricedwww.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Dealer Consumables for the PT and IPT torch's
Reply:Compared to the eastwood, are there any units around the same price that you all would suggest or recommend? ie. lincoln, hobart
Reply:The Eastwood you can ajust the amps from 35 to 175 unlike the others that have 5 tap settings and cost morewww.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Dealer Consumables for the PT and IPT torch's
Reply:ThermalArc 211i for 1300 new and call it a day. Mig, tig, and stick. 110v or 230v. Dc only like the snap on. You dont need ac on steel or stainless. Only aluminum. Also, while I appreciate all the body hammers snapon replaced for me back in the day, I dont see how it makes them better than a welding company. Reply:I would not buy a set of wrenches from Hobart or Lincoln, welders are a different matter. If you want a Snap-On decal to put on your eventual welder, I think I might have an extra.
Reply:They are overpriced C&K units stay with Lincoln Miller/Hobart or HTP real welders.
Reply:Okay, I am not going after the Snap-On anymore. I have found some reviews I really like vs the prices of the unit + they are new.
Reply:I'd steer clear of Snap On welders. Very overpriced for what they are. Also realize that their 110V welders are all rated for 30 amps input, which is rarely available. |
