Reply:You can also find them often if you simply walk the lines. I picked up about 25 or 30 about a month ago simply by walking the small local rail line. I found a spot where they had been doing track work and they simply dumped the old spikes after they pulled them and there were a few new ones laying around as well where they dropped them.When the vegetation dies down I'm going to go look at one section of abandoned rail line closer to my house. I remember they had a stack of new rails and spikes laying off the side near the old station a few years back when the closed the line down. I'm betting some are still there if I look under all the weeds..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
