Thought I would finally post up some pics. 3/8 316 ss round. Bent with a 4" gap. It is used to lift sharks from the water onto a bridge or pier. Attached Images

Reply:Nice job. Make it a bit heavier using thicker stock  and add a ring at the top, and it would make a good grapple for hooking wrecks. I used to make up a few of them when I worked for the dive shop for our boats and a few of the fishing charter boats at our dock..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:DSW my friend makes these in heavier stock for bigger fish but also as anchors. He isn't a welder and only stick welds them so I had to buy parts and weld it myself.        Also forgot, welder was an old Airco ac/dc 300. 3/32" red #5 cup about 17cfh.  1/16" 316L fillerLast edited by SquirmyPug; 10-19-2012 at 10:23 PM.
Reply:Hell, for wreck anchors I use rebar. SS gets a little expensive when you lose them half the time in the hang.

Reply:Why lose them? Cause sometimes the bottom opens up and swallows anchors. Rebar is cheap and easy to replace if you are dropping the hook into rocks where it may get hung up. It is soft enough to straighten out quite readily and you can get them back. Expensive hooks don't get used for short stops in the rocks if you have a sacrifice beater. Reply:Spinner sharks, blacktips, lemons and nurse mostly sometimes we will a bull shark. These gaffs are also really good for lifting big stingrays onto the bridge. Will see if I have any pics.
Reply:I don't have many pics but here is a small spinner shark i caught it was 4'8" to the fork 5'6 total length. The other pic is of Rocky with his first big fish caught from the bridge..a big stingray Attached Images
Reply:We used to catch skate when I lived out by Seattle. That would have been a "small" one. Reply:DSW that ray is a big one for us..but we have caught them alot bigger, in the river its hard to keep them from getting into the other bridge because of the current. We set the reels with 25-30lbs of drag..sometimes more. I can post a few vids from youtube if it is ok to.
