Any rigwelders in the southern california area willing to show a young buck how to weld downhill? I have a ranger 305g we can use. And also a tig setup for same machine if willing to teach 2" 6g. I have filler metal, argon, 7018, 6010, grinders etc. I have my structural steel certification but want to learn pipe as well. I can come to you or vice versa. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.Ranger 305gMillermatic 140 AutosetDewalt Chopsaw2 grindersMy Fists

Reply:sounds like you have all you need to do it your self. IMO .get you some pipe , bevel it and start running some roots , again ,and again and when you get that down start filling them up. when thats done start capping. done. IMO most of it is all hood time on your part. same with tig (there are a few vds on you tube to help you out. for tig just get some sced 40 2" pipe its cheep and work on the root , fill and cap. I weld pipe and every one of us on the job weld it different . we weld to asme code all up hill both tig and stick on pipe and tube. everyone has there own little way they like to it . If you are going to do pipeline you do not need to learn tig or how to weld up hill , or burn a 7018. here(WV) they (pipeline welders) use only 6010,7010,8010 they weld to API 1104 we call it west coast welding. try to figger out what field you want to go in and practice that code for it. hope this helps a little

Reply:A friend of mine just passed his 6" 6G test on the first try. He had been practicing on his own, then got some coaching from another welder, a guy that's been welding for over 25 years. That made all the difference, he learned more in a few sessions than months in welding school.Which school are you going to?

Reply:Rig welders are tight lipped and tight fisted. You got to prove yourself first to get a job but you got to get a job to prove yourself. They give nothing up unless you know them real well snd even yhen uou wonder if they're telling it straight.
