flux core question

so today i was doing some welding on a exhaust pipe and noticed the large amount of spatter. i've always had this problem but it just really bugged me today because this is the most welding i've done with this welder and wire so far. i have never welded with so much spatter before (but that was with gas) is this just a characteristic of flux core wire? the metal was clean and the welds came out nice but damn...so much spatter...just made it look so ugly.made me wish i was welding with gas but today was pretty windy and i like working out side so
Reply:Yes, one of the down sides of FC wire is lots of spatter compared to solid wire and 75/25 gas. Picts would help to determine if the spatter is "excessive" or not..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Yup that is normal for flux core. If it's just some exhaust pipe nobody is going to see don't worry about it. Run gas for the pretty welds!

Reply:Most innershield flux core is reverse polarity. If you were running gas shielded before in the same feeder you may have to switch the cables around. Reply:i just got this welder and it came with a spool of flux core. i checked the polarity before i installed it and its right. why is the polarity different for flux core, i still don't understand that.
Reply:Most flux core wire is opposite of gas shielded wire. I am not sure of the exact reason why, just that 95% of it is.
