Reply:The floor pans i did in my Pontiac are sort of quick and dirty,I didn't want to spend a whole lot of time on them, beacuse this car is going to be a driver not a show car.... The next ones are a '50 Ford hood and a 53 Chevy. These were 2 vehicles I was working on at a local shop a couple years ago. My boss was a real prick to me(probably cause I'm a yankee) and because I wouldn't do half *** things he wanted me to, so i did the repairs as I was allowed without him throwing a fit..... I searched for a new (used) column with no luck... and decided to at least try to  weld it... which seemed impossible considering how nasty it was and that the column was about 3/8'' thick but the bearing flange (ring) was maybe 3/8'' tall and maybe 3/16'' thick also broken into two pieces . So I slightly beveled the edge of the flange, cleaned everything with a SS brush, then preheated the column till the paint started to burn on the column( 300-400 deg ??)  then proceeded to weld the flange onto the column. I used my Square Wave, 200 amps, 3/32 lanthianated tungsten, 3/32 4043 filler... Reply:I took the repaired column to the machine class at school and was hoping to machine it myself but with end of semester finals the instructor said that he would either machine it himself when he had a chance to, or one of his students would do it for me...anyway here's the column set up in a CNC mill... Reply:The machine shop machined that column wrong and I had to re-weld and have it machined again... after the second time, the column ended up working perfectly...My dad and I found and bought this old INTNL backhoe for $2500, it needed a head gasket and the head rebuilt $500... now it runs excellent...
