I just picked up a new (to me) welder off Craigslist.  A Lincoln Square Wave 175 TIG.  $500.00 is that good for a gloat or does it qualify for a "You Suck"?BobFight organized crime - reelect nobody!
Reply:Sounds like a good deal. Does everything work like it should? Do you already TIG weld or are you learning? Either way I think you scored.
Reply:Provided everything works as it should and it doesn't look like someone hurled it from the 5th floor of a project, then yeah I'd agree with hardy that you definitely got a good deal. One of those "bought pimp welder for one weekend of work" sort of things? Usually get good deals out of those HTP Invertig 221-DV -- get's dragged everywhere.Syncro 200 -- "The Boat Anchor" at the lab.Lincoln 125 MIG

Reply:Since you never know how that last owner treated your welder..... Do yourself (& the welder) a good deed and thoroughly check it out, look for loose, corroded connections, clean it well, etc.I too think you probably scored big time, good going Dude!Thermal Arc 185 ACDCLincoln Weldpac 155

Reply:You basically stole it if it is in 100% good working condition and it came with the torch and ground.  I am looking for one right now.  Congrats on the find!
Reply:Yup. If it works, sounds like a deal. I sold one I had under my bench about a year ago for 1300.
Reply:Thanks Rick V.I am almost a new welder.  I did a little welding 50 Yrs ago when I was playing with stock cars but haven't done much since.   I am taking TIG lessons at the LWS now.  Their very basic but enough to get you started. The welder was kind of cruddy when I got it but cleaned up nice.  The inside was clean very little dust/dirt.  I cleaned it out with air, very gently. The only thing I can find wrong with it is the gas solenoid wont shut off. It passes gas even when unplugged. Now I have to think of something to make, maybe a cart that thing is to durn heavy to carry around.Bob
Reply:What a piece of crap! I give you $500 for just because I can live knowing an old timer like you have been scam like that! It's look too good to be true! It's a Keeper, if she weld as good she look, you hit a homerun nothing less! Reply:Good deal if everything is OK......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:The 175 is a good DC TIG unit. I'll give it an OK at best rating as an AC aluminum unit. The auto balance feature ( AC side) likes to ball the tungsten way to much.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice

Reply:Hi Rick,I played with it for a while before buying and was happy with it but I don't have 240 service in the garage so I haven't been able to do anything with it at home. One of my sisters boys is going to wire the garage for me later this week then I'll really be able to test it out.  I'm electrically challenged so I don't mess with wiring.BTW  is your pickup big enough to carry six or eight of those inverter welders all wired together running off a Harbor Freight generator??? https://www.weldingweb.com/images/smilies/laughing.gif
Reply:Hey Bob_C,RE: I played with it for a while before buying and was happy with itI assume you played with it at 240 volts? Ah well, later this week will tell the tale... probably going to be just fine!  [Bob_C... "You Suck!"]RE: BTW is your pickup big enough to carry six or eight of those inverter welders all wired together running off a Harbor Freight generator??? I don't have a pickup truck.  Running off a generator?  Hmmm, never thought of that.I think the challenge may be finding enough separate 15amp breakered circuits in the average home to allow me to plug in all my 115volt inverter welders. Then too, there is the sound... the hetrodyne frequencies of 3 welders operating at around 18,000 Hz?  I have no idea... this could sound like standing on multiple cats tails or sitting down on a set of bagpipes! Reply:Call the police ! Someone stole a welder ! What a deal !  If your gas valve is bad, I hope you get better results trying to get that type of part from Lincoln than I did. Even my local welding shop couldn't get a result from them.My part was for a Lincoln MIG and I found one that works great on ebay for about $13.I have a 175 Squarewave also, they want a 125 amp breaker and # 8AWG to max out in AC mode. 100 amp and #10 for lighter duty DC. Enjoy.
