Transmission case with a groove worn inside from a wayward pin..I have done these before but it has been awhile since the last one..At least it came in all apart and cleaned up very nicely..The best way to the problem was thru the jackshaft hole but you do what you must in these situations..Pics tell the story..#1..The case..#2.. Inside..#3.. Groovy!#4..Thru the shaft hole..#5..First pass..Ugly huh?More next post.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:As we continue..#1..After the die grinder treatment..#2..Finish pass..#3..Done...Welder set to 300 Amps but the footpedal takes over..3/32" Red..1/16" 5356...Straight Argon..NO pre heat..NO post heat..Just do it.I get all the fun jobs.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:how much do you charge for fixing these i buy these cases any where from $80-125 all the time when i do rebuilds. You should offer to weld the diff pin in also as thats what caused this mess for some reason chrysler thought a 1/16" roll pin would hold it in
Reply:I'm almost positive that's what kinda tranny case that is, and shanem is right, the diff pin sliding out of the diff is what caused that. They're lucky it didn't fly completely out and blow the diff housing completely off the case. That tiny little roll pin will hold the diff pin in perfectly fine as long as you don't go around doing 1-wheeled burnouts with it. The spider gears will weld themselves to the pin and bust the tiny roll pin then the diff pin flies out. They make a spacer to mount an OBX or Quaife torque-biasing differential(from a 5-speed) into that trans and that solves all of the problems plus you get a limited slip front end. =) I used to own a 400fwhp Dodge Shadow and I went though many transmissions during it's lifetime due to the open differential, both autos and manuals.Brad GeorgeCurrent Equipment:AIRCO Heliwelder IV 300Amp Model - Total Awesomeness!Old 120v Hobart Handler MIGVarious grinders, cutting tools, hammers, clamps, ect..."I'm an amateur welder with lots left to learn..."

Reply:The visible gear looks all jacked up, bent and chipped teeth and even looks like melted tooth edges?Does the weld have enough clearance for whatever runs next to it?Look at all that contamination, I hate used cast aluminum parts!Nice job!
Reply:is the repair for structural or leak issues or is there a stop  for a pin to hit in that area?..it doesnt look like it breached the outer side of the case..Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...

Reply:Originally Posted by HertzLooks to me like he was just filling up the groove that was worn in the case so it doesn't crack there later down the road.Looks good. Not knowing what fills that space, my only concern would be if there's enough clearance there now.
Reply:That grove he welded was caused by the pin sliding out of the differential and rubbing into the case. The way it was welded will leave plenty of room just so long as the pin stays inside the differential where it belongs.Brad GeorgeCurrent Equipment:AIRCO Heliwelder IV 300Amp Model - Total Awesomeness!Old 120v Hobart Handler MIGVarious grinders, cutting tools, hammers, clamps, ect..."I'm an amateur welder with lots left to learn..."

Reply:strangely, I bumped it up, knowing it was old, because I am trying to find tranmissions like this - FWD but the diff is far from the input shaft so that the axles will clear a large engine block.miller syncrowave 250hobart handler 140home made 400 amp engine driven in progress...
Reply:I know this is an old post, but if I can get my camera working with my pc I'll post the picture of the welds on the basket (reverse or overdrive or whatever it is) of the aisin warner 341e out of my 1994 lexus ls400. The worst undercut weld , nastiest slop I have ever seen. Anhjd on a really expensive luxury car. I guess you dont get what you pay for ever anymore........I thought my brother had somehow caused the damage , but a trans guy looked at it and said nope thats how they turn em loose from the factory. I guess its all German or American from now on. No more djapcrap
