Ok, here's the Combat Jump cart. I wanted a cart with large castors on all corners for my home shop, that I could maneuver around into a tight corner when the work is done. I put round grab bars in front of the two shelves, and built in a welding jacket hanger in the back, that doubles as a handlebar for pushing/maneuvering the cart around. I built this mostly with 1 ½ square tubing and 1 angle. 2 X 1/8 flat makes up the cable racks. A repurposed garden hose rack holds 50 of 230V extension cord. The cart holds a Miller 211 Mig and a Spectrum 375 Xtreme plasma cutter. I put a lift point (out of 1 1/2 x 3/8") that balances the loaded cart nicely, and enables me to crane it into the back of my truck. Its really nice to have a cart with all the cable holders I need, that combines one cart for both my mig and my plasma, and has big castors that will roll over large cracks in the concrete. Reply:Very nice cart. I particularly like the way you were able to perfectly match the paint color to the welder. Maybe some of that interior designer flair is rubbing off on you.

Reply:Its amazing the number of excellent carts you guys come up with on this site. Great design there Combat. Love that coat hanger. Be sure and post that truck crane as I'm sure that going to be of interest to many. Again Great job.
Reply:looks great.I might have gone with a bigger lift point clamp.the RED hook looks a little small for the size/weight of that rig.but then again, I always go for overkill... Miller 211Hypertherm PM 451961 Lincoln Idealarc 250HTP 221 True Wisdom only comes from Pain.

Reply:Interesting design. Built-in coat hanger? But that actually is kind of nice, instead of just throwing the coat or welding jacket on top of things. But where you have the gas cylinder tucked underneath the support arm for the coat hanger restricts you to just a short 40 ft3 cylinder (or maybe a 60 ft3 one). No way will an 80f ft3 cylinder fit under there. Since most of the cost in a cylinder refill is the 'handling' and not the gas itself, the cost to refill an 80 compared to a 40 is waaay less than 2x but you get 2x the amount of gas. Just food for thought. The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...

Reply:I love it too!But where do you store your consumables? The only thing I would change is the location where the tank is as I run a larger tank.Other than that, great job and look forward to the truck crane write up.ChrisLincoln Pro Mig 180TMiller Spectrum 375

Reply:I wonder if 1"x1/8th would be ok to build this with. I've got a bunch of it.Put my Spectrum 375 on the bottom and my PM180T on the top. I wont need the lifting hook but I love the concept. Maybe some sheet on the bottom.I was all set to build a "traditional" cart but now you go and post this....Last edited by KnacK; 03-02-2010 at 04:09 PM.ChrisLincoln Pro Mig 180TMiller Spectrum 375

Reply:Just checked out the crane - nice job! Great cart build, too. I would be slightly concerned about the additional weight for the compressor, along with everything else you have on there .... will your top lift bar need to be reinforced to handle the extra weight? Not trying to rain on your parade, just thinking safety .... Slightly off-topic: best "consumables" cart I ever saw was in my dentist's office. Once you sat down in the chair, he had a Craftsman toolbox right there next to his chair! He said a lot of the guys who came in got a kick out of it, and it was actually the perfect thing for him to use - since the drawers were shallow on top, he could lay out his most-often-used tools, while the larger drawers held other equipment. Being the smartass I am, I pointed out he didn't have a NASCAR sticker on it, and he laughed ... He laughed even harder on my next visit when I gave him one!Last edited by SpyGuy; 03-03-2010 at 01:44 AM.

Reply:Combat Jump Cart:Nice job! did you use the 211 to make it? Sounds like a dumb question I know but I don't have one yet and was thinking of building my cart with my OXY/AC rig while my new 211is being shipped, so I have it ready when it arrives. Or should I just wait?Into Metal

Reply:Really great job my friend, good design and matching colour just tops it off, I think a storage box would fit nicely under the welder, could even be removable and have a padded top to double up as a seat for those awkward welds that you usually have to crouch for, can't beat being comfortable.Lincoln SP-170 MigHypertherm powermax 45Lorch T220 AC/DC TigButters FM 215 synergic MigKemppi 180 adaptive mig RULES ARE FOR THE OBEDIENCE OF FOOLS AND THE GUIDANCE OF WISE MEN.

Reply:no no no no no it needs at leaast one shelf to fill with wrenches and crap and small pieces of soapstone
Reply:I added two 230V boxes to plug both the welder and plasma into. Now I no don't need to unplug one machine from the extension cord when changing from welding to cutting and back. Attached ImagesMiller 211 MIGMiller 375 Extreme Plasma CutterMiller Maxstar 150 STL TIGOxy-Acetylene torch
Reply:I would have also added a 110v outlet for your angle grinder. Pretty simple, you have everything right there and won't have to run another extension cord.ChrisLincoln Pro Mig 180TMiller Spectrum 375
Reply:wow great work!! I was looking for ideas on how I wanted to make my welder cart a month ago for a school project. I ended up going with the traditional style. I will be adding on to it now tho. also can i get some pics and more details on your lift in your truck looks like something im looking for, for my generator, welders, and snowmobile.thanks, Ryan
Reply:Thanks, Ryan. I have posted info on the crane here:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ht=Combat+JumpSo far, I have used it to lift two motorcycles (not at the same time), a 250 pound piece of furniture, generator, and of course my cart. Oh, and just used it to pull the fender out of the wheel well on my son's 1971 F250. Reply:I truly don't know this. How do you attach the plasma cutter on your cart? Its light and you swing it into your truck on a crane. How do you keep it in place? Can you take a picture? I really can't figure it out.

Reply:I may copy that.... Question for ya....I was thinking about putting in a Hydro lift in my PU. How is the base plate constructed? I do NOT want to destroy my nice pu bed. how was yours done?

Reply:Great Job there Combat!!! Paratroopers lead the way!
Reply:Super cart! Any chance you can tell me the dimensions of the base? I would like to build something similiar but am a little nervous about it tipping over and figure you have had some experience with yours and its stability. Thanks for any dimensions you can provide.Darren
Reply:Thanks, Darren! The base is as follows: Front piece measures 18", and the rear is 22". the center piece is about 28.5" making the total length 31". The cart has no tendency to tip, unless you hit a crack in the floor (like mine, haha!) just keep a good grip on the hand holds, and you are good. I would not change the base dimensions at all - its really stable. You might want to located your extension cable rack on the other side to make opening the welder door easier.
