I think I made some good scores off Kijiji in the last 20 days.August 11 2011......$100  Linde 250 AC-DC Welder (no leads)... All copper transformer and inductor windings.August 16 2011......$  50  100 ft of #1 gauge welding cable (used)...OK, so it measured out at only 94 feet.August 17 2011......$  50   Lincoln AC-225-s ($85 after refurbishment)... It didn't look like this when I bought it - see refurb story http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=59987August 29 2011 (Last Night!)......$199  Lincoln AC/DC 225/125... Saw the post at 10:20PM, phoned (one potential buyer wanted to see it tomorrow) so I went for a 40 minute drive last night, cash-in-hand!These popular Lincoln welders sell here fast typically for $300 - $350.Of these four items, I think the Linde 250 AC-DC welder for $100 was the best score - What a Machine!  Puts out like almost like a 375 lb Lincoln Idealarc but only weighs 132 lbs - that is a big deal for me... as I can move it! Reply:I think I am a bad influence on you  I can't believe you spent $199 on one machine.    is the Linde putting out 250amps on DC too?  have ya got plugs and cables for it yet? Is that the one you are going to keep?   the 1 GA cable will be fine if you cut it in half for 250 amps.   usually you can make the ground a  bit shorter than the stinger cable.   say 44 and 50 ft.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:I'd say you've picked up some nice toys..... I'm almost as bad about buying welders, maybe worse. I don't even think about it anymore..if I want it I get it,I'll sort them out later...LOLGreat score on the lead...good price. I'd use the shorter length as the stinger lead and just add enough of a stinger lead to it to be longer than 50'. I just paid $109 for one 100' long.Anytime you can get a name brand AC/DC unit for $200 you scored. I like the job you did on the Lincoln AC unit.

Reply:Out with the Old and in with the New!In one 24 period...I sold the $50 refurbed Lincoln AC-225-s for $200.I sold the $200 Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 for $375.I sold my $150 Canadian Tire AC/DC 230/140 for $250I bought a second Linde 250 AC-DC for $300! (I can't believe I paid $300 for one welder!)I got the 1st Linde for just $100 but it had no leads and ony a two foot power cord. The second Linde cost $300 but it came with 50 foot #2 leads and a 25 foot #8 power cord.Priced out for leads/connectors/ground/stinger and 25 ft extension cord, that's equal value within $20 or so.I have a 'thing' for the Linde's - Big As* Power in a small package.  Only a few lbs heavier than a Lincoln AC/DC 225/125, the 132 lb Linde carries a Big Punch - 250 amps AC or DC and welding arc voltage is 30 volts compared to the Lincolns 25 volts - that makes a positive difference with easier arc starts and maintaining a stable arc during welding.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet

Reply:So, I'm assuming the funds received were Canadian, so let's see if my maths conversion is correct. $425 (canadian) profit, before you bought the linde, which takes it to $125 (canadian), multiply by the curent exchange rate, carry the one, total in the currency of Etats Unis= $4.38  Just enough for two $2 meals at Taco Bell, (or a coffe and doughnut at Tim's) Nice work on that stuff. I'm sure the folks who bought them were thrilled with the condition. (P.S. My wifes canadian, I give her crap about you're monopoly money every time I find it in our luggage after trips back there. Stinking loonies and toonies. I never remember to exchange it on the way out. My daughter thinks the purple bills are "so pretty" )
Reply:Hi Birdwell... sorry your math is not bad but your currency conversion rate is a mite off; today 1$ Canadian buys $1.02 US greenbacks.  So my $125 is your $127.50; you were just a little out at $4.38 US. Monopoly money?  Actually having different colours (colors to you) makes denomination identification easy: $5 = Blue, $10 = Purple, $20 = Green, $50 = Orange, $100 = Brown.  Yeah, you don`t have to read the numbers = no chance of handing someone a $20 when you thought it was a $5.Being paid in $100s, I have to check for counterfite bills; I hold them up to the light and a face appears that you cannot see just looking at either side of the bill.PS: My wife's Canadian too... small world! Reply:I bought two Thermal arc gms300 inverters today, they guy asked if i wanted all 16, i neglected to tell him two was plenty lol i have no idea what im going to do with them but once i figure it out it will still come out to be a decent deal for me @ 100$ eachI forgot how to change this.
Reply:Looks like you got the same bug I do.  Watch for screaming deals on welders that you need, buy them, and then when you find an upgrade, sell the old one for what it is really worth.  I'm now sitting on a nice Miller welder and wire feeder for much less than retail as a result...  Close to 10 cents on the dollar in reality.  And all by buying and trading up a few times.-DaveXMT304 with: 22A Feeder, or HF251 Hi Freq DC TIG air cooled

Reply:I've been busy!  Here are some of my more recent scores...October 6A Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 a 1.5 hour drive away.  Picture is after restoration.September 28 Bought / November 9: Delivered Another Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 (a 5 hour drive away).  Pictures are during restoration.October 26Oxygen/acetylene welding kit - local.November 13 and 15The 'Twins', both Lincoln AC-225-s (half hour drive away).  Both yet to be restored. In both cases, the included extras were worth as much or more than the posted price of the welder!November 16A second Mastercraft DC inverter welder - 100 amp TIG & 80 amps Stick on 115 volt 20 amp circuit.  The welder was advertized as an Inverter Arc welder and showed only the view of the unopened box - without that Big Clearance Price Sticker.  Because I already owned one, but had never seen the box before and was a bit uncertain if it was the same welder, I zoomed in on the picture on the lower left of the box... yes, I could just make out the Tig torch!  If anyone else had seen that... no way I would have got that deal from 7 hours away; a local would have grabbed that.  Think about it - $100 for brand new unopened box 100 amp DC inverter with Tig torch! So I paid by PayPal and added $30 to mail it to me... my total cost ~$130.That's been my fun for the last two months.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet
Reply:Rick I think you need some professional help with this Kijiji thing and used welders... Though I guess there are worse things to horde than used welders... My case isn't quite as bad. I think I only have 6 or 8 machines right now... Not counting the 5 or 6 OA set ups, plasma, 5 band saws ( 3 vertical, 1 horizontal, 1 hand held), 4 table saws, 6 wood chop saws ( maybe 7), 2 abrasive saws, 12 air nailers, 5 compressors.... I'm trying to cut back. My therapist says I'm doing better... I've branched out into machine tools and forge/foundry gear now though... .No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Originally Posted by Rick VDSW I'm glad you're on the road to 'recovery'... however the medication required for machine tools & forge/foundry gear appears rather pricey.Yes, I struggle to hold back, to restrict myself to just welders.  I find myself branching out, first to welding cable... well cables do plug into the welder, then to the power cables... well the welder plugs into power cables.  Alas, I have also progressed up the line... to the breakers and electrical panel.
Reply:DSW - Black Smith! That will be another interesting experience.  I'be been there - done that... as a summer job (blacks smith's helper) at the INCO copper refinery back when I was...~17 years old.  Start of the day was the worst as the two black smiths sat and drank coffee while I ran around getting coke and coal and building the fire!  Helper... I swung the sledge hammer down onto the parting tool held by the black smith, also helped feed big pieces and swedge into the steam hammer - sparks flying everywhere = most impressive!   That job was great, learned more there than as a machinst helper that I was the following year.Lathes... yes those are pricey - for the size you want - that most folks want.  But it's the accessories to make the lathe useful that add up in a big hurry!   A new lathe comes with basically none.  What you want to find is a fellow selling a quality USA machine with all the accessories he has accumulated over 20 years because he is moving into an apartment or an old-folks home.Last edited by Rick V; 11-19-2011 at 10:29 AM.Reason: spell errorRick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet

Reply:Here's my score, a rebranded Miller 250-HF. I usually eat breakfast in front of the computer and look through my favoutite categories for the morning deals. This one was $50 and the seller wasn't sure if it worked or not and if it didn't he would give me back my $50. The fan protecting screen was pushed in and preventing the fan from turning. Took it out, plugged it in weld...aahhhFeels so good when a deal like that comes in, it sure can be addictive. Since I took some pics of stuff I bought on Kijiji & Craigslist lately...thought I'd post them... $300 Lincwelder in perfect condition $150 Onan 6500w generator with trailer  $50 1930 AC welder (welds great) When I picked up the Onan Generator the guy was moving and couldn't take this 27' motorhome with him because it won't start... He called me 2 days later and traded me the motorhome (w/4000w generator) for an almost new 110v Clarke wire welder. Attached Images
Reply:Bearston  & mudbugone - Really Good Scores!Alas, my good wife 'put her foot down' when I wanted to drive 2 hours into Quebec last Friday to get a new model Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 for $195.Me: "But dear, that's a great deal, I can flip that for $400 easy"Her: "You have six welders in the garage!  "Sell some of those - then you can buy that welder!"Of course... 'that' welder was gone by Sunday.I must say though, the older Lincoln AC-225-s (high boys with cables coming out side-by-side in the center front panel)  had more and thicker sheet metal, the welding cables were larger in diameter and the fan had a quality enclosed/sealed motor turning aluminum blades - not today's cheapo open-frame motor turning plastic blades.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet
Reply:That was a super deal on an AC/DC unit...Too Bad!I was kept from buying a 1 year old Sportster that my buddy re-popped by my first wife...It was $800 and needed a rear tire.... I didn't get the bike and she took off several years later...I still miss the bike.I'm pretty sure I learned it's better to buy it and either hide it or suffer the consequences AFTER the fact then to inform on myself beforehand... I'm upset...she's upset...and I didn't get whatever it was....The other way around she's upset ...(I'm HAPPY) and most important I scored whatever it was....Then you can treat her to something and skate out from under the storm cloud...LOL..If she don't brain you...

Reply:Over the past few weeks, I sold off 4 of the 6 big-box welders that were occuping my garage. This wasn't a case of simply flipping what I had bought. All of these I had refurbished:cleaned the dirt & dust from the inside, cleaned & lubed the on/off switch, cleaned & lubed the contacts and moving parts of the amperage selector & polarity selector switch, disassembled the fan motor and oiled the bearings, cleaned the fan blades3 of the welders I had repainted - 4 coats/sandingAs you can see, I'm partial to the Lincolns - all darn good welders! Reply:Yesiree mudbugone, you certainly deserve some form of 'recognition' for your dazzlingly accurate predictions... such as, "There will be a rash of items to buy in Jan/Feb as the Christmas bills come due and folks start getting rid of their old welders since Santa brought them new toys..." Hey papaharley, thanks that's a better job on the certificate - an almost perfect job in fact.Bored?  Yes mudbugone, I'm bored!  As Telly Savalas said in the movie Kelly's Hero's, "There's no action here!"  And it was you, mudbugone, who said there would be action...."I always like to keep some mad money handy the first of the year for whatever comes up for sale." Reply:I've been called far worse...   My 80 year old Mom has been having serious health issues since 2 days after Christmas including a week in a coma and several weeks in intensive care and then more time after surgery...So as you may imagine I've not been actively looking for stuff.  Thankfully she's recovering well and getting stronger daily.  Having to be available 24/7 I have only been to the shop a few times and total time there has been an hour or two since Christmas   To occupy my time I've been looking into setting up a little Blacksmith setup and researching Power hammers from antique ones to homebuilt ones....I figure they have to beat (pun) using your arm and a 3-4 pound hand held hammer......  Amazing amount of info online... I may be an old fart, but damn there is a bunch of intelligent & informative stuff out there in cyber-space. I can't believe people spend so much time on games or porn .If you just pick a subject there is a site and there are folks that can answer any question you might have on anything... It's like access to a library at your finger tips complete with live feedback. I'm still surprised there isn't a bunch of stuff showing up on Craigslist or Kijiji (Ebay) for you to buy though... Pick another interest and see if you can tap another line of toys... after all it's just for fun anyway with some cash thrown in for more fun...
