I'm looking for a good multi-process welder regular Mig, FCAW, Tig etc, our power downunder is 240v/50Hz and I want to stick to that rather than putting in a three phase/415v socket.  I don't need a plasma cutter as I'm going to get a Hypertherm for that.Any suggestions of what welder to choose or any to avoid would be appreciated!  Coomonly seen manufacturers down here are Lincoln, Miller, Everlast, a couple of reasonable brands that won't be sold in the U.S., and a whole raft of what is probably Chinese manufactured and sold under a heap of different names.
Reply:Cant beat a Miller XMT!

Reply:Many thanks for the replies and suggestions. It looks like the XMT 350 is the largest single phase machine in the XMT range here - I will check it out. Originally Posted by Silicon-basedI believe they are sold under the Cigweld brand in Australia. May have a different part number there.  John
Reply:It seems like the Miller XMT's are quite a bit more difficult to get hold of here, and at least double the price of the Cigweld/ThermalArc's.  Can someone tell me if the Cigweld Transmig 250i http://www.cigweld.com.au/product/mi...-power-source/ is the same as the ThermalArc Fabricator 252i or is the Cigweld an earlier model?

Reply:Lincoln TM series AC/DC  300/400 500 /650 old style or a Tombstone DC/AC 250 will do any thing . Single phase used worldwide . Stick Gouge Mig with a LN-25 Tig with a hi freq box . need 50 to 200 amps .

Both are made by Victor Technologies. One thing to check on the tech flyer if it has run-in adjustment like the Thermal Arc 252I has. That feature is highly desireable if you want to do spoolgun work with alum wire.Check to see what accesories are availabl, like a foot pedal, or spoolgun. If not, I don't think it is the same.
Reply:The manual for the Cigweld 250I mentions a remote wire feeder accessory. It is a box with another motor drive which couples to the face plate of the parent unit. The gas line bypasses the parent unit and goes into the remote wire feeder.  I don't know why they would not offer a spoolgun to attach the same way.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:Hands down, the Lincoln V350Pro. I used it and the XMT, and no comparison. The V350 has the smoothest, most buttery arc I've ever seen. But do yourself a favor and find a way to try them both, you'll see."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:Had a long talk to a customer support guy at Cigweld late today.  They have decided not to bring the spoolgun versions into Australia as there is very little demand for them here.  We then moved on to talk about the 250i, and discussed it in depth including the limitations on it due to the electrical supply in Australia.  He suggested that I get a 200i instead if a 250i and gave reasons why that made sense so I think that I will go that way.
