Hi Guys,I have a job where i have a lot of off cuts of 10" tube about 18" long  x 10mm  thickWhat can i make or do with them?? Its a shame to have to scrap them, i have about 20 in total. They were going to be inserts for welding 2 tubes together but they decided to go for open root, in the endCan anyone come up with an idea? and i'll have a go making it
Reply:You can always lay them on their sides, going up the side of your wall or other convenient place and use them to separate stock. How about a few planters? Heavy, yep, but nobody will steal them! You can always create an art project out of them, call it circles and semi's...something to stir the creativity. Heavy duty legs for your 1" thick welding table... the list goes on!!! Reply:Gongs? Cut them into rings for a project? We used to use 8" pipe to make shovel and rake holder for the work truck. They also worked well to hold our tank sprayers, and I use one to hold my "B" cylinder for acetylene for my air acetylene torch. Maybe fire extinguisher holders perhaps? Weld them together end to end for cheap parking bollards? We used to take a bunch of pipe sections like that and weld them together and sink them as lobster hotels off the wrecks we dove on so the staff could pick up dinner easily..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Weld a cover on one end of one, make a bolt-on cover for the other end, pack it with leather, charcoal, blond hair and your other secret ingredients, and it becomes a chamber for carbonizing  steel parts you want to harden.Another could be modified for chucking small pumpkins...The rest could be saved until another really useful need comes up.
Reply:the kind of mortar that doesn't go between bricks.
Reply:I've seen a lot of small BBQ grills on work trucks for cooking a steak or whatever in the field.  Could be made into one of those.  Pretty heavy steel though...Make a small lockbox on your truck for things you don't want to leave lying around.  Weld a heavy plate on one end, make a door for the other end and put a heavy-duty lock and hasp on it.
Reply:potato cannon?
Reply:I think you could stager them into an arraignment of planter it could look really goodSent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Reply:I was thinking a small meat smoker (use it vertically) or a small grill (use it horizontally).  Not the most practical use, but they are free.A REALLY heavy duty wheeling machine frame (English Wheel for those of us in the US).A grass roller for the putting green in your back yard.A baseball-bat-proof mail box (a US thing...kids destroying rural mail boxes with baseball bats)That's all I've got for ideasKevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
Reply:Donate them to the local college for practice pipe.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Slice them up like sausage, add a hub and spokes or sheet metal and make wheels for carts. 10" dia would work well for that.
Reply:weld plate on bottom and toss your change into. Put one in every room. Give one to neighbor and have him call you when full.

Reply:Cannons.
Reply:Bowling ball cannon, short  easily aimed would do a lot of damage  with a pound of black powder.  And make a lot of noise with the powder but without the bowling ball.
Reply:Floor safe sounds like a good idea. I wasn't sure on the latch system but your idea is a good way to go at it. I'm not sure that the bolts will be long enough to clear the tube however to lock it when you set the latch inside the round shape. You may have to notch the side of the tube so that the bolts don't have so far to go to lock. That or extend the bolt face. Another idea would be to use the same idea as a garage door lock where the bolt locks the center that throws out the two arms. You'd need a handle that's removable and it would take more fab work to make unless you can find a heavy duty garage door lock you can modify..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Excuse the source (might be a  bit too "tree hugger" for this group) but how about making a Rocket Stove.  Here's an OK vid on the process.  Google will find more.  http://www.treehugger.com/corporate-...ove-video.html
Reply:Cap both ends, cut it in half length wise and make a mini BBQ grill,  sell them for tailgating or something... http://www.philswelding.com

Reply:Cap one end, have some kind of door or something like that in the other, dress the entire inside with high temperature insulation, install a good size propane burner. Oven for heating rather large pieces, perhaps for forging or hardening?
Reply:You could make a small tumbler for polishing things.
Reply:smokers and barbq's..

Reply:Mailboxes.  Weld a plate to the back, and make a plate door for the front.  Weld a one foot piece of 1/4" wall 4x4 square tube to the bottom to slide down over a wood 4x4 (which is 3.5x3.5) for the post. You didn't build that.'85 Miller AEAD-200LE
