A gal a couple cubes down noticed some stuff I made and put in my office.... she asked me if I could make something for her that she could use as Christmas gifts....... I said sure.....10 or 11 family members...... I said $40 each........ (I had no idea what to charge)........Here are my first two.......DAD posts first.... then the Jeff goes second.........9 more to create....... Reply:Nice projects fex, and make a few bucks as well. I think $50 a piece would have been a better deal for you tho, since you had to buy the clocks. I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:Great job! BTW, what brand is your welding helmet. Got a super fat head myself and that tension adjustment looks to be far better than what's on my Huntsman...biggest I could find.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.
Reply:Hey WyoRoy: I got the cheapo auto-darkening helmet from Lowe's. The tension adjustment is not very good. It breaks on me all the time.......As soon as I can afford to, I plan to get a much better helmet.........I also have a Huntsman, but it's a fixed shade...... haven't used it in over a year..... but the head tension is better, so I'm thinking of doing a switch-a-roo on the helmet and head thingy....Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:Darn!!! Thanks for the quick reply. Guess I'll keep looking...better than the next available alternative I suppose. Yep, Huntsman is variable AD, large window, but pretty old style in every other aspect.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.

Reply:Making the lettering on the Jeff project is a pain. I did my entire headache rack that way. Looks great but took forever. You did a good job. I also like the clocks. Here is my headache rack that is done that way. Attached Images
Reply:Fexal,it has been a real pleasure to watch you progress in your abilities. I think these lil nameplate /clocks are cool. Its nice to see someone think outta the box sometimes and turn something relatively simple into a work of art
Reply:Thanks guys..... It is a lot of fun thinking up a design and then making a reality...... It's more fun than the actual welding...... Which is a lot of fun.......The dad took 3 Saturdays........ The Jeff took 5 hours start to finish.......These are getting fast and easy........ Reply:Originally Posted by FexalI bought them off of Ebay. I got 10 of them for $18 shipped to my door.I had to cut them down a little because the hands were too long. The hands are black and it was impossible to see them against the black background on Jeff, so my wife suggested dipping the tips in paint, so I did, and they are easier to see now.
Reply:I just realized I started a couple new threads with these name plates. I think I will keep the ones I do from here on out in this thread...... Today I finished up Austin. I was originally pretty happy with it and then I had the bright idea to outline the letters in white to make them stand out better....... Now I like it less as a result.....I have 7 more to do for this co-worker, and now another gal in the office wants me to do her one for her husband with a Dallas Cowboys sticker on the clock.......Anyway.... here is Austin..... Reply:Very nice Fexal! I like the different color on the Austin clock. I think that was what you needed on the Jeff clock. Just my opinion though."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:My nameplates aren't as nicely finished as your's & don't have the clock. They were cut freehand with a torch & I made many more of the Grandkids names but took no photos. Various thicknesses of scrap steel. Layout to ready for painting less than two hours each. No grinding, they could have been prettier but....Anyway just sharing nameplates.  http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=37900    Post # 7Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
Reply:That Austin one looks very good.  The S is perfect and well worth the time you put into it.I like the built up letters over the cut out ones since they are more 3D and  more like shaped metal. Reply:Great ! You got these down pat. Did you consider the Harbor Freight compact bender ? This is cheap and may help in productivity . Here's the bender and the manual. i got mine for 59.00 with coupon years ago.http://www.harborfreight.com/compact-bender-38470.htmlhttp://manuals.harborfreight.com/man...8999/38470.pdf
Reply:Yep I have that bender and use it for these projects....... I still manage to screw up bends now and then....... And I think I'm up to about $4.50 an hour now........I have used the proceeds so far from this week (not profit.....cuz their ain't none.......) to buy a shop vac that will hang on the wall....... Which will free up 2 square feet in my garage.......... And I'm building a shed in the back yard to get the mower outta there........Things are lookin up.........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:That's next on my list too. If I can move my junk to a shed in the back yard I'll have another 60 sq ft of room.  That would allow for a drill press, bench grinder stand (currently sitting on a shelf and it's almost useless there)  and maybe a tube bender, tube notcher, and a steel rack. Reply:Hey Gamble,The letters are 1/4". The clock is schedule 40 5" pipe. The base on these vary depending on what I feel like using. This was 18 gauge (I think) for the base. For the girls names which I need to start working on I will use 1/8" instead and a smaller OD pipe for the clock. Most of this is just stuff I have laying around so I'm not out too much in new material. Reply:HI FexalYou are getting the snowball rolling down hill now.  Any project you do that brings in extra money for tool is a big plus.  More tool makes for more projects makes for more experience makes for more money, ECT.  This site is full of guys that earned their tools and shops starting that way.  Just think of how happy you have made someone by making a nameplate for them, they have something custom made just for them. You say you are up to $4.50 and hour now what about the smile on your face some things are priceless.Have funTom
Reply:For $40.00 the cuts on the DAD clock should have at least been dressed up.
