Well I tried out the Franz inspired water separator/filter today. Its made from two 24" lengths of 2" schedule 40 pipe threaded into a 2" X 1-1/2" T. I put a ball valve for draining at the bottom end. I put a 1-1/2" pipe plug into the T. This was drilled and tapped for 1/4" pipe thread. I threaded a female coupler into the outside of the plug for my air inlet from the compressor ( its a older Sears 230v 4HP with 25gal tank ) . There is enough material in the 1-1/2" plug that I was able to tap the inside of the hole also. I then threaded a 1/4" close nipple and 90deg elbow into the inside of the pipe plug. The elbow was rotated so it points down toward the drain end. Then I stuffed the top section above the T with super day Kotex as Franz suggested. I am not sure if there is a certain type to use or how many. I may add a fine screen on top just in case they tend to disintegrate. Then I capped the top with a reducer coupling and added another female coupler to supply air for my plasma cutter. I cut up a bunch of scrap using it and then checked out the motor guard filter on the plasma cart. It was dry and clean so maybe the Franz type filter is doing its job. Maybe Franz will lend some insight into what service life I can expect or what maintenance might be required. Seems like a good idea and a cheap way to dry air.
Reply:STOP!You have comitted a mortal sin!The kotex is NOT stuffed into the upper half of the water seperator, it will disintigrate, and fall into the lower half, and then you'll have to get it out.Kotex is used in a completely seperate column, after the water seperator in the air circuit.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
