let me start by saying I have never touched a welder in my life, but I am very excited to learn. I got this welder today for free. I am having a hard time finding any information about it as most of the words and labels are worn off. I would like to get a new lead for it, but not sure where to start my search as I don't even know who makes the machine. any help I could get would get would be greatly appreciated. Reply:Looks very similar to HF Chicago electric Dualmig 121.4 heat settings, gas valve in the gun and actuated by trigger. It may cost you more to fix it than it's worth. Very hard to find parts, but I'd try harbor freight.
Reply:Does that tag say "made in Italy"Try checking with HTPBuy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.

Reply:Looks suspiciously like a faulty Matco unit I tossed out back in '12.Do yourself a favor, find a friend who will show you how to weld with decent equipment. Then decide if you want to spend some money on your own tools. From the pix, you're going to need $250 in parts just to see if the power supply works. Walk away from that thing. But don't let that discourage you from entering the wonderful world of welding!Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A
Reply:.thank you all for the help. I have thrown that old paper weight away. but I have one more question. I have a chance to buy this welder for $50 I am assured that it works well and needs no repairs. is it a good buy and something I will be able to use as a beginner. thanks
Reply:I had a century just like that once. Use Heat 3 and 4 all the time........1&2 were useless. Also, a kink like that anywhere in the feed whip will cause irratic feed issues or just plain horrible birdsh;t welds....or none at all. Reply:I wouldn't buy it. Flux core and no gas makes for some pretty chitty welds. Tough as hell to learn. Plus, it's a low amp 110 mig. 20% duty cycle at 85 amps. If you're gonna get into this hobby, you're gonna want more amps and options quickly. I'd personally watch CL for a 220 mig. If you're convinced on a 110V, go with at least a 135-140 amp one that can take gas. You can't weld with the amps you don't have. |
