Reply:I'm talking about 3 inch 1/4 thick pipe and make it all from scratch

Reply:Never attempted it and I wouldn't want to. Keep us posted w/ pics if you decide to. It sounds like a project that would create a lot of gray hair. Don't know what kind of material you intend to handle, but 1/4" thick flighting sounds kinda wimpy for a 24" auger.                                              MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:been there done that.  go buy it new and buy "super flighting" or whatever the supplier calls it, it will have a thicker outer edge for more wear resistance.   If your having problems finding it check with some grain handling dealers.

Reply:For a feed mixer it would work better to build arms welded to the shaft in a spiral pattern like an auger w/ replaceable paddles bolted to the arm ends. Google "pug mill" to get some ideas. I used them quite a few yrs mixing water w/ crushed rock.                                         MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:We used to buy augers from Wellons in Portland OR. They were made from 3/8 T1 and we used to order extra flites because they were feeding an underfed stoker boiler and would wear out the last 1 1/2 flites and I would replace them once in between the auger being replaced. My understanding is it takes a special press to form a flite.Millermatic 200Hobart Handler 120Victor O/A & Ramco BandsawLincoln 225 ACSnapOn AD HoodMiller XMT304/22AHypertherm Powermax 1650 G3Lincoln Idealarc DC600 w/Extreme 12 VSMiller Digital Elite "Joker"

Reply:I do all sorts of work with augers. That feed mixer looks well used. You wanting to replace all the augers or just one? Most mixers of that type have special flights which also chop or grind during the mixing process. You can see it on the flights in the pic though they are well worn. Not worth the hassle. 24" flighting is a bear to work with. Also I am not sure you want 3" pipe if you do. Pretty lightweight pipe for that size of flighting.  Check out Replacement Flighting Supply. They are out of Nebraska. Good luck.Dutchman
Reply:If you search sectional flighting on google it should point you to a supplier. However if you want to make it on your own it is basically make a washer with a center hole larger then the pipe the size can be calculated I would have to look up the formula. Once you have your washer slit it an start stretching it as it stretches the center hole will get smaller.Miller 180SDLincoln weld pak 180Hobart 250ciMill Lathe
Reply:Here a handy PDF where you can select the 24" wide auger flights and it tells you all the other sizes, See if thats any good for you or you can call the number on that PDFhttp://www.ghdistributing.com/images...ingCatalog.pdf
Reply:You are going to have to provide more information. What are you going to do with this thing when it is done? Big difference between mixing concrete and boring holes in the ground.Essentially you are going to cut out letter Cs, heat them in a forge, stretch them to get the right offset then weld them onto the pipe in a series.

Reply:you will have a lot of waste if you make your own.
