Reply:Awesome looking piece. What finish was it done with? I assume a traditional patina, Japanese brown maybe?
Reply:that claw is pretty cool.I once saw a full size bald eagle on a branch that the whole thing was filler. it was truely amazingDynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
Reply:Thanx guys. I've moved away from all filler rod. I use bar stock, pound out shapes in .125 sheet, whatever it takes 2 get from A to B. Then I start building up shapes & details with tig. The claw is stainless, and I sanded & polished the high points. Next, into a 900*f oven for 6+ hours Clear coat when cool,& BAM!!!....looks like bronze! And no need 2 add a zero!

Reply:Nicely done and congrats on the sale! It scares me that someone would think $150-200.Retail, I'd not go less than $800.200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:$800 is about what I would've priced it @ the gallery. This was a direct private sale, so I subtracted the gallery's cut 2 push the sale thru.

Reply:Ur right, Bert. I'm @ a non-profit gallery. I wouldn't do that with a for profit with a signed contract.
Reply:Along the same lines, do you run into the "we don't want you selling out of any other galleries around here...." attitude much in Detroit? I've gotten it here before and just laugh at them. Maybe if they would guaranty $4000/month, then yeah, ok. They just look dumbfounded when I ask for this in return for "exclusives". And heaven forbid I should ask to be the only metal work they carry..........200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:Absolutely! The last gallery I was with wanted S.E. Michigan exclusively as their territory! And a 1 year signed contract. I discussed all of these issues with my current gallery. No contracts, no restrictions, and 35% to them. I've had a few sales with them, so far so good!

Reply:This is an amazing piece, I would love to hear more detail about how you make it look like bronze. That is a beautiful finish.

Reply:Congratulations Grumpy.I noticed that piece on your facebook yesterday and was showing the girlfriend. Both of us are simply amazed at your work. Luckily she doesn't read weldingweb or she may see this and think I bought it for her. If you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before the bag of luck is empty."-Grandad circa 1990ish

Reply:i checked out your cool facebook page but only say photos no videos, if you can share your video links that would be really appreciated. Is there one particular metal that works better with this method of drip via tig sculpting?
Reply:Thank you for checking out my page. As for the videos I've made, they're not quite ready for prime time. As for a favorite material, stainless steel is my preference. http://www.facebook.com/LockhartMetalArthttp://www.facebook.com/pages/Grumpy...44306259043484 |
